[15:06:38]  <_CommandeR_> will there be a fix for plymouth so it will display boot screen all the time or? [15:06:45]  <_CommandeR_> or is there allready a way? [15:06:56]  <_CommandeR_> already* [15:07:37]  you'll have to talk to Keybuk about htat [15:07:39]  *that [15:07:49]  it's an ubuntu integration question [15:07:56]  <_CommandeR_> this is how it looks for me right now. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2137335/Lucid/20100413_001.mp4 [15:08:20]  he said earlier that there's a way to force it to always work [15:08:26]  at the cost of adding 2seconds to your boot cycle [15:08:32]  he didn't say what the way was though [15:08:45]  your best bet is to ask him when he comes back [15:09:46]  <_CommandeR_> also about the sunrise them dont know if you seen it but is it graphical intensive in any way? because i get like 2 frames on it then shutdown/reboot [15:11:00]  _CommandeR_: you can test in the console to see how much cpu it eats up. That theme is rather intensive because it has very large partly transparent images [15:19:23]  <_CommandeR_^ hm only 40% on cpu topps [15:19:34]  <_CommandeR_> most 20% [15:19:43]  yeah, then its fine on your system [15:20:00]  Its probably still a bit hungry for netbooks [15:20:21]  <_CommandeR_> thing is why does it play super smooth when i play it in terminal, but on launch or shutdown displays for maximum of 2 sec. [15:21:12]  because the boot / shutdown have completed within 2 secs? [15:22:49]  <_CommandeR_> the computers boot time is about 20 sek [15:22:52]  <_CommandeR_> sec* [15:23:23]  <_CommandeR_> shutdown is allot shortet but boot is quite long. [15:24:02]  yeah, but on ubuntu, plymouth is only started once most of the boot has completed [15:24:17]  Its not that it is slow, it is just that ist is started very late [15:24:26]  <_CommandeR_> hm [15:27:34]  keybuk mentioned that if you have an encrypted disk [15:27:42]  then its configured to start much earlier [15:27:54]  so that could be one solution for you [15:28:00]  but really your best bet is to talk to him [15:28:09]  or tseliot [15:28:22]  halfline: you know the half bullet in the entry? [15:28:31]  just noticed it is not drawn properly [15:28:33]  yea [15:28:37]  oh? [15:28:48]  i probably screwed it up when i switched it out [15:28:50]  and it accesses beyond the end of the image data [15:29:03]  oh that's not good [15:29:11]  you know the offset paramiters on ply_pixel_buffer_fill_with_argb32_data [15:29:16]  halfline: I think we do that by starting plymouth in the initramfs if the disk is encrypted [15:29:40]  I think thats the only place they are used. I was going to remove them and use a clip area instead [15:30:16]  tseliot: do you know how to set that config hook up if the disk isn't encrypted? [15:30:25]  tseliot: where does that get decided? when the initrd is generated? [15:31:10]  brejc8: sounds like a nice clean up [15:31:11]  halfline: echo FRAMEBUFFER=y | sudo tee /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash [15:31:19]  then sudo update-initramfs -u [15:31:31]  Sarvatt: thanks [15:31:39]  _CommandeR_: you see that ^ ? [15:31:44]  <_CommandeR_> yeap [15:31:59]  <_CommandeR_> first one i dont get but second one i do [15:32:43]  _CommandeR_: he's just saying create a file called /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash [15:32:47]  that has FRAMEBUFFER=y in it [15:32:58]  then after you've done that [15:33:08]  rebuild the initrd for teh change to take affect [15:37:13]  <_CommandeR_> hm [15:37:49]  <_CommandeR_> one question why is there a need to update initramfs ? [15:38:59]  <_CommandeR_> anyway seems that it did something, the splash is almost working [15:38:59]  it's all documented in the README.debian file of the package [15:41:35]  <_CommandeR_> well seems that the framebuffer really fixed it [15:42:23]  <_CommandeR_> now the boot animation works all the time and plays without any hickup. The shuddown animation goes for 2-3 seconds but then quits but that is not an issue because the computer is fast to shutdown. [15:42:28]  here's the file: pastebin.ubuntu.com/413858/ [15:42:55]  * tseliot -> off for a bit [15:44:12]  <_CommandeR_> think that i gonna post a short note on ubuntu forums how to fix the animation for this one and to make it work smoothly.
