04:53kode54: since violet_purple_red[d] said jack and shit and expects help, and I'm feeling generous, I may try to boot up the benchmark
04:53kode54: last I read about it on Discord, the game crashes because it assumes nvidia means it can ask for RT support
04:53kode54: when it receives the error asking for RT support, it just crashes
04:54kode54: RT is optional, but I guess their detection method doesn't expect the query to completely error out
04:55kode54: I'm bored, I'll see if I can reproduce with the benchmark, but I'm not buying the full game just to look into someone else's error, especially since I'm not a dev on the driver project
05:12mangodev[d]: rebuilt mesa today, causes xwayland to segfault ðŸ«
05:12mangodev[d]: which is weird because there hasn't been nvk changes merged in a while now
05:12mangodev[d]: maybe one of the NIR/gallium changes?
05:13mangodev[d]: something from the last 24 hours, built my drivers last night and it didn't segfault xwayland
05:15mangodev[d]: didn't preserve in logs :blobcatnotlikethis:
05:25kode54: I can't help diagnose it
05:26kode54: I recently switched to a "performance oriented" arch derivative, and it apparently doesn't even support the notion of using nouveau on anything new
05:26kode54: got a boot with nouveau and gsp firmware loaded, but nvk was non-functional
05:40mhenning[d]: mangodev[d]: can you get a backtrace from the segfault?
05:49mangodev[d]: mhenning[d]: can't
05:49mangodev[d]: the logs didn't preserve after reboot
05:49mangodev[d]: tried going back in journalctl, but it just goes back to yesterday
05:51chikuwad[d]: kode54: did you install `vulkan-nouveau` and `lib32-vulkan-nouveau`
05:51kode54: yes
05:51chikuwad[d]: weird
05:51kode54: it simply said it found no supported hardware
05:54chikuwad[d]: what gpu?
05:55matt_schwartz[d]: is Blackwell enabled without the spooky env variable yet on stable mesa?
06:11mhenning[d]: yes, blackwell is supported
06:12mhenning[d]: definitely for 25.3 I forget if it made it into 25.2 or not
07:11mohamexiety[d]: mhenning[d]: It did, got backported
09:11kode54: oh ffs, I figured out why
09:11kode54: I did some package management out of order and ran a tool to remove the last traces of nvidia prop stuff
09:12kode54: the distro tool uninstalled vulkan-icd-loader
09:12kode54: and because I installed vulkan-nouveau before running this, it didn't get reinstalled
09:12kode54: now I will attempt to run that Wukong thing and get some logs
09:13kode54: yup, fails immediately
09:13kode54: but at least I can gather logs
09:14kode54: never mind, it was only failing immediately because I failed to select a Proton version that I have installed
09:14kode54: please let there be logs this time
09:15kode54: yeah
09:15kode54: it did what I recall reading on Discord
09:15kode54: it starts shader compilation
09:15kode54: then shader compilation checks for RT support before attempting to compile the RT related shaders
09:16kode54: NVK throws an error instead of reporting negative, or something like this
09:16kode54: game doesn't expect an error here and simply reports out of VRAM and dies
09:17kode54: testing concluded as corroborating what I saw reported on Discord
09:17kode54: violet_purple_red[d]: is this what you saw? Out of VRAM message?
09:18kode54: basically, it's a game bug mixing with an unexpected Vulkan implementation error being mistreated by the game
09:18kode54: it should be a non-fatal error
09:19kode54: since the game should simply say "no RT, so don't compile RT shaders"
09:19kode54: although maybe the game is dumb and assumes any RTX by device ID will support RT
09:20kode54: violet_purple_red[d] should probably stick to the proprietary drivers if possible if they're going to play games seriously
09:21kode54: NVK is getting better, but this particular bug is a showstopper if you want to play that game
09:21chikuwad[d]: kode54: try the -dx11 launch argument
09:21kode54: oh?
09:21kode54: it has a dx11 option?
09:21kode54: I guess I'll put that through tests before I leave nouveau again
09:22chikuwad[d]: it might have it, yeah, what with it being a UE5 game
09:22kode54: while UE4 had -dx12
09:22kode54: not sure if it had -dx11 as well, in case it needed overriding
09:22chikuwad[d]: both UE4 and 5 have both
09:22kode54: interesting
09:22chikuwad[d]: -dx11 and -dx12
09:23kode54: I know Stray will try to use hardware RT if you give it -dx12 and hardware reports support
09:23kode54: and there are lots of bugs in the RT shaders they bundle
09:23kode54: like, on the hub outside the slums, on AMD, the GPU will start to stutter and eventually hang in the shaders
09:24kode54: but before that happens, things will happen, like the leaves on the underbrush of the trees shimmering in waves of lit/unlit
09:24kode54: meanwhile on nvidia, I recall boyfriend when he had a 3060, the mirrors in game would glitch out horribly in RT mode
09:25kode54: clearly they didn't mean for that dx12 flag to seriously be used
09:26chikuwad[d]: yeah a lot of devs don't disable the "other" directx path in UE when they pick a default
09:31kode54: yeah, dx11 mode works
09:31kode54: also dodges the shader compilation step
13:03violet_purple_red[d]: @tjaalton I'll test it later
13:06tjaalton: violet_purple_red[d]: ?
13:06violet_purple_red[d]: Wukong
13:06violet_purple_red[d]: Thing
13:07violet_purple_red[d]: Also last time I tried running Wukong with -dx11 it didn't even open the game
13:08violet_purple_red[d]: tjaalton: Oh wait sorry wrong ping
