13:10johns: oh, when I was asking for video card recommendations, I meant nouveau supported cards :)
13:30RSpliet: johns: yes, I understand the question. But given how long the nouveau community has been gaslighted around DVFS-firmwares and the likes, I wouldn't recommend any NVIDIA card that requires the use of signed firmware if you want to run an OSS driver.
13:30RSpliet: Which brings you back to Kepler, or at the very best first-gen Maxwell GPUs. Which by now are so old that you're much better off with an AMD card
13:58karolherbst: RSpliet: well.. granted the stability of GPUs with blob firmware is higher though
14:12RSpliet: I won't argue against that. But if nouveau is capped to 30% of perf due to the lack of DVFS firmware, I no longer consider that a wise investment
14:32karolherbst: RSpliet: true
18:31karolherbst: skeggsb_: what's the proper way of doing some channel init stuff? Like if we have to set a specific register to a specific value, is there a better approach than SW subchan methods?
20:01mynacol: karolherbst: Congrats for finally merging !10752 🎉🎉🎉
20:01mynacol: I already switched to mesa-git instead of your fork. Now I just have to wait for stable mesa 22.3 to get rid of any development version 😁
20:04karolherbst: yay
20:04karolherbst: I hope there won't be too many regressions
21:49RSpliet: oh that's huge. karolherbst: nice one!
