17:51linkmauve: Hey, I finally managed to get Nouveau to do OpenGL stuff!
17:52linkmauve: If I use Intel’s DRM node to run Weston, I can start Wayland applications just fine on the second GPU.
17:53linkmauve: Nouveau EGL doesn’t support p010 image formats?
17:57linkmauve: Any reason, other than not having been implemented yet?
17:57imirkin: not sure what the point would be
17:58imirkin: where would such images come from?
17:58linkmauve: I just tested a video decoded on the i965 vaapi, then imported to EGL on Nouveau.
17:58imirkin: also aren't they planar?
17:58imirkin: that'd be much pain
17:59imirkin: heh, ok
17:59imirkin: well - not supported :)
17:59imirkin: i wouldn't reject patches.
17:59imirkin: but also no idea how to implement support
18:00imirkin: same problem as planar yuv or nv12, probably
18:00linkmauve: So turns out, for now only Wayland clients are working, X11 ones crash either the X server or Weston itself. ^^'
18:00linkmauve: (Bugs are already reported.)
18:00imirkin: expect the solution to be "don't use nouveau"
18:00linkmauve: Ah, I have a crash on pure Intel-on-Intel too.
18:01imirkin: that'll get you further.
18:01linkmauve: I do plan on eventually not using Nouveau, but that requires ditching this GPU and buying another, and inertia is stronger so far.
18:02imirkin: perhaps inertia will carry you all the way to intel desktop gpu becoming a thing :)
18:03linkmauve: I’ve been extremely pleased with their drivers over the years.
18:03linkmauve: And I already have an Intel GPU in there, just not as an external PCI card.
18:03imirkin: yeah, they have a real team on it
18:03imirkin: and they invest effort into it
18:04imirkin: as an organization
18:04imirkin: (at least from what i've seen)
18:04HdkR: Nvidia at least invests effort, in to making life harder for Nouveau :P
18:05imirkin: i doubt we're so high on their list that we'd be worth the effort
18:05imirkin: although it does feel that way each time a new generation comes out and TEX operand order is inexplicably rearranged
18:06HdkR: It's just a "nice" side effect that signed firmwares hurts Nouveau
18:16pmoreau: karolherbst: I will try to look at the updated series this week, but not sure I will have the time.
19:01lovesegfault: Where there really no nouveau changes in kernel 5.7? https://kernelnewbies.org/LinuxChanges#Linux_5.7.Graphics
19:07karolherbst: lovesegfault: there were :p
19:12imirkin: nothing groundbreaking
19:13imirkin: i guess the pm stuff would be worth talking about
19:14karolherbst: I actually want people to disable their runpm=0 workaround to see if it's really just that one controller or not
19:14karolherbst: but so far from internal testing it actually is just that one controller
19:17imirkin: well there's also the gp107 on/off thing
19:17karolherbst: ohh, that one as well :)
19:20RSpliet: lovesegfault: well, I believe that page you linked *is* a wiki. Feel free to add a summary of the nouveau changes if you fancy!
19:20RSpliet: Although, honestly... I can't find the edit button
19:20karolherbst: probably you need to login first
20:29lovesegfault: karolherbst: That's what I thought, I was surprised when I saw nothing there
