14:17 abderrahim[m]: Hi all
14:20 abderrahim[m]: about the assertion failure I reported some time ago, here is where templat−>interlaced is set to false. https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/blob/master/src/gallium/state_trackers/va/surface.c#L977
14:22 karolherbst: abderrahim[m]: so if you remove that statement, does anything changes?
14:22 karolherbst: like does it just work?
14:23 abderrahim[m]: I don't know, it was "fixed" when mesa was rebuilt with NDEBUG
14:23 abderrahim[m]: let me try
14:24 karolherbst: ahh, I see
14:24 RSpliet: abderrahim[m]: that removed the assertion... Of course the question is whether that assignment is wrong or the assertion
14:25 abderrahim[m]: and I have no idea :)
14:25 karolherbst: mhh, vl_compositor_yuv_deint_full is called
14:26 karolherbst: so maybe that assignment is correct?
14:26 karolherbst: ilia usually knows more about it
14:26 karolherbst: abderrahim[m]: didn't you create a bug report or something for that?
14:27 abderrahim[m]: no, I didn't
14:29 abderrahim[m]: imirkin said that non-interlaced output is unsupported and the state tracker should be fixed
14:30 karolherbst: mhh
14:31 karolherbst: why should non-interlaced output be unsupported though :/
14:31 karolherbst: who is still using interlacing these days
14:42 abderrahim[m]: fwiw, I have a Geforce 210, so that might be why non-interlaced isn't supported
14:56 abderrahim[m]: btw, I noticed that 3D is slower since I started using nouveau instead of the proprietary driver. I'd like to help improve it.
15:00 abderrahim[m]: I have a few questions: Is it known what is needed to do? how hard is it? (I know C, but don't know much about graphics or hardware). where can I read about it? does it need kernel work or is it entirely in userspace?
15:00 RSpliet: abderrahim[m]: one thing you can do is write f to /sys/kernel/debug/dri/<number>/pstate . If code hasn't rotted over the past few years, that should kick your GPU clocks up to their full potential. You can cat the file to see what other modes exist
15:01 RSpliet: They provide different performance points. The higher the performance, the faster you drain your battery (if applicable) and the warmer it runs.
15:01 RSpliet: You might briefly see your display blink when you do so. It's highly unlikely your machine hangs, but if it does, a reboot will solve that problem.
