08:40vliaskov: Has anyone seen these nouveau messages when using 2 GPUs: https://pastebin.com/4p4nniUn
15:28naptastic: Is it possible to completely disable screen size detection and force a specific DPI setting at the driver level?
15:30karolherbst: naptastic: question is, how does it help?
15:30karolherbst: naptastic: or do you want to force userspace to have a 1x scaling factor?
15:31karolherbst: I think there should be a way to define that on an X level, no idea about wayland though
15:49naptastic: I want to do it at a lower level, because X, GTK, and other components are all fighting each other. I've got some systems convinced the DPI is 48x48, and others it's 192x192.
15:49naptastic: So I've got all these applets on my screen I can't even read because they're rendered for 192 but spaced for something much smaller.
15:50naptastic: ...yeah, I could use Gnome or KDE... I could also scoop my eyeballs out with a melon baller.
15:53karolherbst: well normally that's all handled on a GTK/QT level though
15:53naptastic: dang... well, I'll do more digging then.
15:54karolherbst: well, the issue is, X doesn't handle scaling
15:54karolherbst: why should it?
15:54karolherbst: it's up to the application to give properly sized things to render
15:54naptastic: the applications are just really dumb.
15:54karolherbst: all X can do is to report a DPI
15:54karolherbst: I think you could set the DPI through xrandr?
15:55karolherbst: there are also some GTK and QT environmental variables
15:55karolherbst: I just don't know the details
15:55karolherbst: but it would be worth to play around with those
15:55naptastic: I think I tried xrandr and didn't get any results at all. I can try again though.
15:56karolherbst: there is QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS for qt5 for example
15:56karolherbst: qt4 can't handle non default dpi at all afaik
17:15RSpliet: karolherbst: my full HD TV reports it's 7". Its EDID is broken. QT interprets this information as "icons and text need to be huuuuge". I have yet to find a way in Wayland to tell it to be reasonable.
17:17RSpliet: When I drag VLC from my monitor (which is just a weird resolution/DPI, but nothing outrageous) to my TV, the GUI just instantly bloats.
17:19karolherbst: okay sure, but that's broken edid
17:40naptastic: What handles fetching and interpreting EDID information?
23:53imirkin: skeggsb: got this with G92: https://hastebin.com/orahiramep.cs -- looks like it spans the full array of hardware
