00:41RSpliet: (pmoreau?) were there any bugs related to NVAC high hdmi display resolutions and no display on NVAC in kernel 4.8?
00:43imirkin_: search for 'NVAC "No Signal"' on nouveau@
00:45RSpliet: ah yes...
00:45RSpliet:hides in shame of his laziness
00:46imirkin_: if you can repro, skeggsb would like a mmiotrace
00:46imirkin_: since the WAR came from nvidia, it seems like they'd know what they're talking about
00:47RSpliet: oh it's very reproducable, but not a machine I can tinker with too much unfortunately, as it handles stuff like e-mail too
00:52RSpliet: ah hmm, maybe I have some time tomorrow
10:59pmoreau: RSpliet: I had issues with no display even before 4.8 on my laptop. Haven’t looked into it.
11:14RSpliet: pmoreau: no it's a regression with 4.8 :-)
11:15RSpliet: but I'll chase the "NVAC no signal" thread on the ML next time I sit down for some nerdy stuff
11:15RSpliet: lucky I'm in NL when I notice
11:15pmoreau: I know it was for poma, but not for my laptop
11:15RSpliet: I'll get Ben a trace
11:41Vollstrecker: imirkin imirkin_: To report back about the 82527 Issue. At least in my setup, it works.
11:45Vollstrecker: drm-next works, to be precise. But it wasn't that easy. First it refused to build with gcc6, then it refused to build a recent version. Why is master still at 4.0.0-rc4? After changing the version-string, it just refused to boot. After some searching I saw, that I shouldn't use master, but for some reason git refused to list other branches than master. Nonetheless checkout drm-next did what it should, and
11:45Vollstrecker: dpms is working again.
14:20imirkin: Vollstrecker: glad you got it working.
16:48Kabouik: Hi. It might be a stupid questions, but can I expect gaming performances with nouveau or should I most definitely install the proprietary drivers for this? My card is a 540M, so definitely not for big games even with Nvidia driver anyway.
16:49imirkin_: there's no reclocking on fermi, which the 540M almost definitely is one of
16:50imirkin_: so you'd get a middling clock in all likelihood... or low
16:50imirkin_: perf ain't gonna be great, compared to the max of the gpu
16:50imirkin_: but you can give it a shot and see if it meets your needs
16:50Kabouik: Ok, just was not even sure that the card would be used instead of the internal chipset
16:51Kabouik: My distro doesn't support Optimus yet
16:51imirkin_: you should be able to use PRIME to offload
16:54Kabouik: You mean to manually select either Intel HD or GPU with nouveau?
16:54Kabouik: Sorry I'm fairly new to this
16:54Kabouik: By default, how can I know what is being used?
16:54imirkin_: you might find this beneficial to read - https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Optimus/
16:54imirkin_: you can run 'glxinfo'
16:54Kabouik: Yeah I was on this page
16:55Kabouik: The output of glxinfo is Chinese to me. :>
16:55imirkin_: perhaps you'd refer to that wiki page
16:56imirkin_: which details all this quite nicely
16:56Kabouik: Oh, I see Intel in there
16:56Kabouik: Yes, I will read it more thoroughly, thanks
16:56imirkin_: note that if you don't have outputs attached to the nvidia gpu [that you want to use], DRI3 is probably going to be your best bet for offloading
16:56imirkin_: iirc it's slightly lower overhead
20:27airlied: skeggsb: not sure if those ttm patches might affect nouveau or be useful, just in case you hadn't seen them
