01:34 hightower2: Hey, got GTX 770, running on nouveau without firmware blob. It works nicely, but only 1 out of 3 screens are initialized. How do I enable the other two screens?
01:39 s0be: well, got piano test to run. Whopping 4fps with nouveau, but it ran at the max gpu pstate
01:40 hightower2: (xrandr -q only shows one screen named 'default', and doesn't show which connector it's on
01:48 hightower2: Could use some help on those questions (only one screen initialized, xrandr -q not showing more than one either)

02:16 imirkin_: hightower2: you're not running nouveau
02:16 imirkin_: hightower2: you're running vesa
02:31 s0be: imirkin, it turns out my llvm error was due to a symlink in /usr/lib that caused libclangRewriteFrontend to get parsed twice.
02:31 s0be: my piano test 'passed' in that it didn't crash, but itlooks like memory timings weren't ramping up. I may be on a little too old of a nouveau tree.
02:32 s0be: will pull in fresh tomorrow afternoon and test again
02:42 imirkin_: s0be: there's no automatic reclocking upstream
02:42 imirkin_: i believe karol has a branch with some of that logic, but only to change cstates, not pstates
02:46 s0be: imirkin, yeah, I set the pstate to the 'max clock' pstate, but the memory (according to the pstate debugfs file) stayed at 800mhz
02:47 imirkin_: s0be: ah. you probably need skeggsb's latest tree (or karol's) rather than what's in linux right now
02:47 imirkin_: s0be: what gpu do you have?
02:47 s0be: gm107
02:47 imirkin_: right, memory reclocking for that is not in the mainline linux kernel yet
02:47 s0be: Quadro m2000m
02:47 s0be: I'm tinkering in linux-next right now
02:47 imirkin_: not in linux-next either afaik
02:48 s0be: got a link to karol's tree so I can pull it in?
02:48 imirkin_: ben's tree: https://github.com/skeggsb/nouveau/
02:48 imirkin_: karol's: https://github.com/karolherbst/nouveau
02:48 imirkin_: (careful which branch you select)
02:49 imirkin_: note that this is for a separate nouveau kernel module built outside the kernel tree
02:49 s0be: they build externally I take it?
02:49 imirkin_: cd drm; make
02:49 s0be: thanks, will test out tomorrow
02:49 imirkin_: it's kinda picky what kernel tree to build against
03:16 s0be: has to agree on some of the other drm APIs I take it?
03:17 s0be: know a 'blessed' kernel I can use?
03:17 imirkin_: well, it's effectively part of the kernel tree
03:17 imirkin_: unfortunately it's impossible to tell what kernel it'll compile against
03:17 imirkin_: which is a huge drawback of this approach
03:17 imirkin_: but generally "latest" is a good answer for skeggsb's tree
05:57 mupuf:plugged the titan, in place of the GK106
06:25 imirkin: mupuf: i can't easily repro your crash
06:26 mupuf: hmm
06:27 mupuf: I can have a look at it again on sunday. I am off to work then stockholm
06:27 imirkin: mupuf: i forced my setup to produce a '[COPY] failed to allocate class.' error
06:27 imirkin: ah ok, enjoy!
06:36 mupuf: there were some regressions between 13.0 and 12.0 on my g86
06:36 mupuf: they are still being bisected
06:41 mupuf: all of them are accuracy tests
06:41 mupuf: spec@ext_framebuffer_multisample@accuracy.*
06:42 mupuf: will tell you more when it is bisected, this laptop is taking forever
06:42 mupuf: but hey, no manual intervention, so we just need patience
06:49 imirkin: too bad i unplugged my GT215
07:03 mupuf: imirkin: just wait for the bisects to be done
07:03 mupuf: will likely take a week though, given how many changes there has been
07:04 imirkin: =/
07:19 hakzsam: mupuf: a week? :)
07:21 hakzsam: mupuf: I could have a look at those fails over the weekend btw
07:30 mupuf: hakzsam: well, it also bisects improvements
07:31 hakzsam: sure
07:51 karolherbst: imirkin: well, I have the logic to change pstate as well, but I broke it and didn't care enough to fix it based on my recent work
07:51 karolherbst: mupuf: thanks
08:56 s0be: karolherbst, I fixed my llvm stack and can test against this wonderful gm107 that sits idle in my laptop tomorrow. Just pulled down your and skeggsb's trees. Any preference on tree/branch I test? pstate switching 'seemed' to work (noticable perf gain, 2->4fps in the piano test), but mem clock was not reported as being higher in pstate debugfs node.
09:04 s0be: I got this system for the cpu/ram/storage, the gpu was just a byproduct of being 'the only option' when I selected the other components I wanted.
09:57 hightower2: imirkin, could be, but nouveau module is loaded. How do I force it then? (I don't have /etc/X11/xorg.conf at the moment. Do I absolutely need one?)
09:58 hightower2: (force it == force use of nouveau instead of vesa)
11:26 karolherbst: s0be: if master works for you, it should be fine
11:26 karolherbst: s0be: but you could test my master_4.8 branch
11:26 karolherbst: s0be: thing is, memory clock doesn't matter for that benchmark
11:27 karolherbst: s0be: you could run furmark on my branch
12:39 hightower2: imirkin, not really sure that I am using vesa, in x.org server log I see Matched nouveau as autoconfigured driver 1, Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so
14:22 imirkin: hightower2: pastebin xorg log and dmesg - i'm guessing nouveau's just not loading for one reason or another.
14:23 imirkin: hightower2: or i've totally misinterpreted the situation - could be possible as well - but given that your connector name was called 'default', pretty sure that comes from VESA
17:57 benwaffle: skeggsb: have you looked at mmiotrace dumps recently
18:25 yepla: hello
18:25 yepla: [ 321.775] (II) NOUVEAU(G0): Output DVI-I-1-1 has no monitor section
18:25 yepla: how can i create a new monitor section ?
18:29 imirkin_: yepla: that's not an error, fyi. you shouldn't really need one...
18:32 yepla: imirkin_: ok but my screen is black
18:32 yepla: [ 321.775] (II) NOUVEAU(G0): 1 crtcs needed for screen.
18:32 yepla: imirkin_: and this what is mean ?
18:33 imirkin_: yepla: pastebin xorg log
18:33 yepla: ok
18:34 yepla: imirkin_: http://pastebin.com/8GeYKSb7
18:35 imirkin_: yepla: may i ask what you're doing? something very odd is happening...
18:35 yepla: yes sur
18:36 yepla: i try to make run my usb3.0 adapter
18:36 imirkin_: [ 321.775] (--) NOUVEAU(G0): Chipset: "NVIDIA NV00"
18:36 yepla: i use displaylink
18:36 imirkin_: this is quite odd
18:36 yepla: driver for debian
18:37 yepla: in fact
18:37 yepla: when i do
18:37 yepla: gnome-control-center display
18:37 yepla: my adapter is not found
18:37 yepla: so i have try to many thing
18:37 yepla: and now i m arrive to that
18:38 yepla: i start it:
18:38 yepla: sudo systemctl start dlm.service
18:38 yepla: echo "insert adapter"
18:38 yepla: sleep 60
18:38 yepla: sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm restart
18:38 yepla: cvt 1280 1024
18:38 yepla: xrandr --newmode "1280x1024_60.00" 109.00 1280 1368 1496 1712 1024 1027 1034 1063 -hsync +vsync
18:38 yepla: xrandr --addmode DVI-I-1-1 1280x1024_60.00
18:38 yepla: xrandr --output DVI-I-1-1 --mode 1280x1024_60.00
18:38 yepla: and then i need to reboot
18:38 yepla: because i have black screen
18:39 imirkin_: yepla: could you pastebin your dmesg as well?
18:39 imirkin_: also, why is your displaylink adapter the primary and nouveau is the secondary?
18:39 imirkin_: it should be the inverse...
18:39 yepla: i really dont know
18:40 yepla: i have just one screen
18:40 imirkin_: ahhh
18:40 imirkin_: and that only screen is on displaylink?
18:40 yepla: no
18:40 yepla: i try to put on it
18:41 yepla: i wan tthe main on displaylink
18:41 yepla: to use my nvidia for other thing
18:41 imirkin_: ok. i see.
18:41 yepla: so ?
18:41 yepla: do u have an idea ?
18:41 yepla: u want my dmesg ?
18:41 imirkin_: wouldn't hurt, so i get the full picture
18:42 yepla: i have open an issue on github
18:42 yepla: my dmesg is on it but i cannot acces github
18:42 yepla: can u access github imirkin_ ?
18:42 imirkin_: yeah, but github's big :)
18:43 yepla: https://github.com/AdnanHodzic/displaylink-debian/issues/35
18:43 yepla: so it s the dmesg when i plug the adapter
18:43 imirkin_: wtf
18:43 yepla: imirkin_: ?
18:44 yepla: i cannot access actually github
18:44 imirkin_: github.com isn't resolving
18:44 yepla: yes me too
18:44 imirkin_: i stuck something into my hosts file, but that's not enough
18:44 imirkin_: there are more domains it wants to access
18:45 yepla: sometime today i cannot access google too
18:45 yepla: yes it s strange
18:46 imirkin_: something to do with their dns is down.
18:47 imirkin_: i can see your comment though
18:47 imirkin_: that doesn't appear to include the full dmesg
18:47 yepla: do u see dmesg ?
18:47 yepla: ok wait
18:47 yepla: i do it
18:47 imirkin_: i see the 10 lines from "dmesg -w" when you plugged it in
18:47 imirkin_: i want the whole thing :)
18:49 yepla: imirkin_: http://pastebin.com/xeFEV4p0
18:50 imirkin_: right ok
18:50 imirkin_: so you have a GM206 but no firmware, so the load fails
18:51 yepla: GM206 ?
18:51 imirkin_: i'm VERY surprised that the nouveau xf86-video-nouveau thing loads.... i'll have a look at why that is.
18:51 imirkin_: your nvidia gpu
18:51 yepla: ok then ?
18:51 imirkin_: anyways
18:51 yepla: my nvidia will be use for vga passthrought
18:51 yepla: i dont care
18:52 yepla: but i want make run my adapter
18:52 imirkin_: right.
18:52 yepla: to use it like default display
18:52 imirkin_: do you have an xorg.conf?
18:52 imirkin_: if so, can i see it
18:52 yepla: so i have a xorg.conf.DL file
18:52 yepla: that i have put in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d$
18:53 yepla: that i have put in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
18:53 imirkin_: hmm, iirc it loads everything that ends in .conf
18:53 yepla: but it s seems not be take
18:53 imirkin_: you probably need to drop the .DL from it
18:53 imirkin_: can i see its contents?
18:53 imirkin_: btw, the DVI-I-1-1 thing is a total red herring - don't touch it.
18:53 yepla: yes sur
18:54 imirkin_: there should be an fbdev-supplied output, dunno the name
18:54 yepla: http://pastebin.com/SEN1kqx6
18:54 imirkin_: might be 'default' or something
18:55 imirkin_: ok, so that won't work as-is
18:55 imirkin_: i'm guessing you modified it?
18:55 yepla: no
18:55 yepla: maybe is the .DL in the end
18:55 imirkin_: no
18:55 yepla: like i say to u
18:55 imirkin_: its totally fubar
18:55 imirkin_: let me fix it up
18:56 s0be: imirkin, in case you missed it, there's a ddos against dyn (big dns provider) going on right now. Github/twitter/a few other things are experiencing outages regionally due to it.
18:56 yepla: ok imirkin_ok thanks
18:57 yepla: imirkin_: i will write someting if it s work
18:57 imirkin_: yepla: http://pastebin.com/730hBWfb
18:57 imirkin_: try something like that
18:57 imirkin_: make sure it's in a file that ends in ".conf" in that xorg.conf.d directory
18:58 yepla: ok
18:58 imirkin_: yepla: if it doesn't work, pastebin xorg log
18:59 yepla: imirkin_: does i must load udl ?
18:59 imirkin_: yepla: yep
19:00 yepla: i come back
19:06 yepla: imirkin: it s not working

19:07 yepla: wait

19:16 imirkin_: urgh. i need to check how this stuff is supposed to work...
19:16 imirkin_: yepla: actually i have a better idea - try killing that whole Section "Screen" thing, but leave the Device/ServerFlags stuff intact
19:18 yepla: and monitor ..
19:18 yepla: ok i restart ?
19:19 yepla: imirkin: ?
19:19 imirkin_: yepla: ye
19:25 yepla: imirkin: doesn t work http://pastebin.com/YYGCv1xA
19:26 imirkin_: grrr
19:26 imirkin_: yepla: looks like it uses xorg configs from /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d
19:27 yepla: yes
19:27 imirkin_: yepla: i think the xorg.conf you added does nothing
19:27 yepla: i m on debian
19:27 imirkin_: you need to put it into that dir
19:27 imirkin_: either way, none of these issues have anything to do with nouveau
19:27 yepla: maybe i need to put in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d ?
19:27 imirkin_: you may get better help in #debian or something
19:27 imirkin_: yeah, perhaps you do
19:28 yepla: ok sorry
19:28 yepla: if u have maybe an idea in private imirkin ?

19:31 imirkin_: just jam yours in there
19:31 imirkin_: leave the others alone
19:49 RSpliet: imirkin_: sorry, after sending you that e-mail about Fermi firmware my mailserver became inaccessible. Rather unfortunate for a mailserver. Have you tried following up since?
19:52 imirkin_: RSpliet: i have not.
19:52 imirkin_: RSpliet: i looked at some traces i had
19:52 imirkin_: RSpliet: and determined that you were right and i was wrong
19:52 imirkin_: RSpliet: i need to go back and look at 325.x, but 340.x definitely does not.
19:53 RSpliet: damn... I was hoping to be wrong
19:53 RSpliet: but thanks for checking
