03:47 kloofy: well those talks i did were not all that irrelevant, i belive the acqusition of altera by intel , the sum was so large cause altera had lot's of assets too, not being a fabless company, fabless companies like amd and nvidia could just do a design of programmable chips their own too
03:55 kloofy: i don't know that much of techinical information about litography..if there is foundry proccess or machine that could do in unified manner, below certain nm and up , or are they based of certain sizes, and how tiny the tranistors can go, so about such deals smarter persons need to advocate the stuff, i belive 14nm machines could function for 20years that intel got from altera
03:56 kloofy: i am aware that some dutch company really manufactures this crazy tehcnology
03:58 kloofy: mupuf kinda showd me some links, and i know some theory there, but not too much, like i haven't heard how long does it take to fab a single chip after the design was successful with first prototype etc.
04:11 kloofy: i said i will be next twenty years busy or behind the computer, i hope i can cut down at some point the time behind the computer , and after some success deal with other important works too, but that would imply that i got rid of some injuries too
04:14 kloofy: so resources wise i don't have much anything i intend to do a sw, not entering into competition with fabbing business
04:15 kloofy: so i should not be treated a lot as opponent for those business, probably i'd me more like pizza maker or something similar in the end
04:25 kloofy: i also only have managed to read most of the altera docs for their chips and have details about how their tools work, docs are very large and seem like really good too, xilinx probably has all there too, but not read, there is all possible to be branched from open source too , berkeley projects if one were to enter into programmable devices business
04:25 kloofy: but generally as said haven't tested those tools, know only currently that altera ones work which i inspected , starting from couple years ago
04:41 kloofy: http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~hadi/doc/paper/2016-hpca-tabla.pdf 6.1 from page 6, they kind advertise that they have hand optimized equivalent verilog generator, not sure how this would work out, but they fill in all the resources, and claim to do optimized verilog
04:42 kloofy: should be open source too, but was not able to access their bitbucket page, either way that sort of optimizer is layer beyond or up from netlists
14:04 hakzsam: imirkin, yes, I will have a look at the indirect input thing on gm107 today
14:42 kloofy: hi guys has anyone had any experiences, when gpu or gpu locks up, is there a remote possiblity to recover from it, like some netconsole or even this wake on lan to restart or shut down and restart the computer?
14:43 kloofy: i was just thinking that i would hack on radeon cards too, but i would like to control the console remotely from a laptop over wifi
14:44 kloofy: cause i did not find any suitable small size good performance amd convertible
15:09 imirkin_: hakzsam: cool thanks
17:20 beanbag: any known issues with google maps in a web browser causing random glitches and map corruption then the whole video subsection takes a big shit
17:20 beanbag: with #nouveau spamming messages about basically a que beign backed up and gpu not responding
17:21 beanbag: trying to just determine if this old geforce has started the dreadful gpu cracking symdrome or a driver bug
18:33 beanbag: imirkin, hi hussam told me to ask you
18:33 beanbag: <beanbag> any known issues with google maps in a web browser causing random glitches and map corruption then the whole video subsection takes a big shit
18:33 beanbag: <beanbag> with #nouveau spamming messages about basically a que beign backed up and gpu not responding
18:33 beanbag: <beanbag> trying to just determine if this old geforce has started the dreadful gpu cracking symdrome or a driver bug
18:42 imirkin_: beanbag: which web browser?
18:42 imirkin_: and which GPU
18:42 imirkin_: and what messages
18:50 beanbag: firefox
18:50 beanbag: and a geforce 8600 I believe
18:51 beanbag: 6/7 series
18:51 beanbag: ugh I can't remember the message not at home but it's one of those ones when a que gets backed up or not responding to commands
18:52 beanbag: lemme try to find a list
18:53 imirkin_: geforce 8600 is most definitely not 6/7 series
18:55 beanbag: I know it's one of the ones in the series that has a bad defective fill material which eventaully leads to the gpu peeling itself off the pcb
18:55 imirkin_: yeah, that was 8/9-series. hence geforce *8*600...
18:56 beanbag: so it's a 8
18:57 beanbag: im just looking for any known driver bugs before I swap the thing out
18:57 imirkin_: tons
18:57 imirkin_: [of known driver bugs]
18:57 beanbag: it's not giving me a lick of trouble in anything else though
18:57 beanbag: I mean with google maps causing deadlocks
18:57 beanbag: although I can still ssh and shutdown
18:57 imirkin_: first off, geforce 8/9-series gpu's randomly die sometimes with an error we havne't been able to diagnose
18:57 beanbag: but x and vino/vnc are gone
18:57 beanbag: ah
18:57 beanbag: that's all I was looking for really :)
18:58 imirkin_: secondly google maps uses webgl
18:58 imirkin_: and web browsers have recently decided it'd be a hilarious idea to do all this stuff from multiple threads
18:58 imirkin_: which kills nouveau
18:58 beanbag: ah
18:59 beanbag: I guess when I do an erase and reload ubuntu this weekend I should consider swapping out the card with something with less issues
18:59 imirkin_: intel or amd is definitely better
18:59 beanbag: ok
18:59 beanbag: thx
19:00 imirkin_: if you care about open source drivers, go for those. if you don't give a damn, use nvidia + blob.
19:03 beanbag: the intel is too old
19:03 beanbag: on this core2duo box but I could use a amd that is based on a old radeon 9600 core
19:04 imirkin_: hehehe
19:04 imirkin_: that's like ... rv200?
19:04 imirkin_: probably not that great
19:04 imirkin_: i meant more like if you're getting a new gpu, definitely go for amd
19:05 beanbag: ok
19:43 kloofy: my motherboard does not have open cloud or amt/vpro support, but some sort of wfm2.0 predessor specification
19:44 kloofy: but i do not know how that one specifically works, it has some pxe or wol support probably, but not sure if it's enough to hard reset remotely
19:51 glennk: rv350 even, i'd recommend at least something evergreen or later for amd
19:52 imirkin_: glennk: have you and airlied stopped trying to improve r600g? haven't seen anything much from either of you guys on that front...
19:52 glennk: i've been busy working at a startup so no spare time
19:52 imirkin_: ah yeah, that'll happen
19:53 glennk: airlied's been doing radv
19:55 airlied: yeah I get distracted by shiny too easy
19:55 imirkin_: no judgement, just curious :)
19:55 airlied: that and sb always makes me cry
19:55 imirkin_: i like shiny too.
19:56 airlied: or rather I don't think I'm getting enough sleep to look at sb
19:56 glennk: i find looking at sb causes lack of sleep
19:56 imirkin_: lol
19:57 glennk: that, and trying to figure out in what new creative way the hardware has managed to wedge itself
19:59 karolherbst: well at some point you need new devs who really do care about such old hardware :) I usually care only about what I actually use
20:00 glennk: well, i'm still using my cayman, but probably not for that much longer
20:06 beanbag: kloofy, hi
20:06 beanbag: I can probably help with that
20:06 beanbag: what motherboard
20:06 kloofy: beanbag: B85M-D3H-A
20:07 beanbag: ok hang on lemme check
20:07 beanbag: I mean the remote managhement thing
20:10 kloofy: in addition to allready mentioned wfm2.0 which i can not parse, it's mentioned it has support for easytune which could be the earlier version of oc
20:10 kloofy: http://www.smart.sk/gigabyte-ga-b85m-d3h-a-b85-dualddr3-1600-sata3-hdmi-dvi-d-sub-matx/
20:11 beanbag: be back in a bi
20:11 beanbag: t
20:14 beanbag: intel
20:14 beanbag: err
20:14 beanbag: http://www.intel.com/design/archives/wfm/
20:16 beanbag: not finding a lot of info if you messsage my home nick when I am home mabye I can find more
20:16 beanbag: flyback is my home nick
20:16 beanbag: also try ##security
20:32 hakzsam: a new GL ext is in the pipeline, ARB_compute_variable_group_size, yeah I somehow like compute :)
21:03 t-ask: hi
22:14 kloofy: btw i am sort of going through the manual, it does not say things specifically enough, and i have not all that well in this land
22:15 kloofy: it has something like ERP which puts the stuff to to low power state
22:15 kloofy: and it seems like it has some PME even to wake it up, i do not know if this can be done remotely
22:22 kloofy: that is quite irrelevant that Erp it just should disable the PME, but i can not find much about that
