14:21PaulePanter: Hi. As the current proprietary NVIDIA Legacy driver 340.96 doesn’t build with Linux 4.6, I am thinking about bringing up Nouveau again to my colleagues.
14:22PaulePanter: Is there a feature parity list for “legacy” cards somewhere?
14:23PaulePanter: VGA compatible controller : NVIDIA Corporation G96GL [Quadro FX 580] [10de:0659] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
14:24imirkin: not sure
14:24imirkin: other than reclocking, which is likely to be iffy, there should be basic feature parity
14:25PaulePanter:looks up the use of reclocking.
14:25imirkin: however the whole tesla series suffers from what i refer to as the "406040" bug [you just end up seeing that in the logs, it's some error code]. some people hit it a lot, others never
14:25imirkin: reclocking = switching between performance states
14:25imirkin: esp in the G96 era, hardly all GPUs even had multiple perf levels
14:26PaulePanter: imirkin: Interesting.
14:26PaulePanter: Will the lowest or highest power level be chosen by default?
14:27imirkin: PaulePanter: whatever the card's vbios does
14:27imirkin: in the G96 era, if there are multiple perf levels, chances are it'll boot to the highest or something just a bit lower
14:27imirkin: (often not to an actual perf level, annoyingly enough)
14:28imirkin: that's not an end-user understandable chart i'm afraid. don't try to read too much into it.
14:28PaulePanter: … for memory timings has *mostly* for NV50 and *done* for NVC0.
14:28PaulePanter: Does that mean, that development focus is on the last three generations?
14:29imirkin: like i said, don't read too much into it
14:29imirkin: development focus is whereever a volunteer developer happens to have interest in improving things
14:29PaulePanter: Thank you for the great help.
14:30imirkin: the upside of all this is i've never hard of nouveau physically damaging a GPU
14:30imirkin: so you can give it a shot, and if you don't like it, go back to blob
14:38imirkin: PaulePanter: what desktop do you use?
14:38PaulePanter: imirkin: XFCE and awesome WM.
14:43imirkin: i think people trying plasmashell have reported a bunch of issues
14:45imirkin: PaulePanter: ok, should be fine afaik
14:48PaulePanter: Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions.
14:49imirkin: np. hope it pans out for you.
17:44imirkin_: skeggsb_: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=121481 - apparently a8953c52b951 isn't quite right for everything
20:20hakzsam: imirkin_, this is for you --^ :)
20:23imirkin_: you sure that should be ea6 and not ea4?
20:28hakzsam: sounds like, yeah
20:29hakzsam: imirkin_, maybe you can play with it later today ?
20:29hakzsam: because there is definitely something strange to me
20:30imirkin_: hakzsam: ok, i'll try to get to it
20:30imirkin_: i think that 2 is something else, i'll figure it out...
20:31imirkin_: but nvdisasm is a bit finicky about decoding stuff
20:31hakzsam: imirkin_, all atomic operations work fine though, but I just want to be sure envydis is correct
20:31hakzsam: yeah, it is
20:32imirkin_: where do these people come from ... "i need help! help me!"
20:34hakzsam: and he provides a *ton* of info :)
20:34hakzsam: imirkin_, the wip branch is here https://cgit.freedesktop.org/~hakzsam/mesa/log/?h=gm107_images
20:34hakzsam: some parts need to be cleaned up
20:34hakzsam: [esp. the bind images patch]
20:42skeggsb_: imirkin: yeah, i have a RH bug for it too, but as of yet i also have nfi what's going on there - i'll probably send a revert if i don't figure out wtf is up there today
20:44skeggsb_: oh, i already know what's wrong with it
20:44hakzsam: fast :)
20:46skeggsb_: not so fast, i looked a little yesterday and was stumped :P
20:58imirkin_: skeggsb_: "it doesn't work", duh
21:03imirkin_: skeggsb_: ah yeah, that looks better
21:03skeggsb_: yeah, that was dumb
21:03imirkin_: i guess SOR 0 is popular? :)
21:04skeggsb_: there's a few others to choose from, so, not so much
21:04skeggsb_: i just got "lucky" on the boards i chose..
22:01karolherbst: skeggsb_: hi. still busy with other stuff?
22:02skeggsb_: karolherbst: yeah, had to context-switch to atomic/mst for the moment
22:10karolherbst: gnurou: any news regarding that voltage stuff?
23:55gnurou: karolherbst: radio silence from the people who are supposed to reply. :( Let me ping again
