04:04[R]: i have an NVAC and (https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/VideoAcceleration/) says H.264 should be working, but both vdpauinfo and vainfo say nothing is supported... i have the firwmare... how do i know if the firwmare is not actually being loaded?
10:03karolherbst: the heck
10:04karolherbst: 1607MHz base clock
10:04karolherbst: this will be fun
10:04karolherbst: whatever that is
10:06karolherbst: sounds like 10GHz effective clock
10:07karolherbst: and GPUBoost 3.0
10:07MichaelLong: so karolherbst, we can expect same day (27th may) support? hehe :P
10:07karolherbst: sounds like fun
10:07karolherbst: MichaelLong: well we still need the PMU firmware
10:07karolherbst: but maybe it won't be much different
10:08MichaelLong: is it part of this signed firmware stuff we waited so long for maxwell?
10:09Calinou: maybe GDDR5X is different technically, so it needs additional Nouveau wor k
10:09karolherbst: I think it is just that they can use higher clocks
10:09karolherbst: but maybe it is something different
10:09Calinou: I'm on Fermi, and there is no reclocking yet in Nouveau :(
10:09Calinou: if there was I could use it
10:10karolherbst: Calinou: it's worked on though, somewhat
10:10karolherbst: it just needs time because memory reclocking is really hard
10:10Calinou: maybe at the end of 2016 it'll be there
10:13karolherbst: mupuf: pascal will be cooler again :/
10:15Calinou: how good is OpenGL ES 3.0 support in Nouveau by the way?
10:15Calinou: on Kepler for example
10:15karolherbst: no idea, is that important?
10:15karolherbst: I think the support is solid though
10:16hakzsam_: Calinou, GLES 3.1 is now exposed by nouveau btw, and it works quite well yeah
10:16hakzsam_: kepler only though
10:18Calinou: hakzsam_: cool
10:18Calinou: karolherbst: I contribute to the Godot game engine, which will feature OpenGL ES 3.0 (and optional ES 3.1) as renderer next year
10:18Calinou: for better graphics (right now we use OpenGL ES 2.0)
10:19karolherbst: Calinou: ahh I see
10:21karolherbst: mupuf: and now we get officially notified about mmiotrace changes in the future :)
10:22karolherbst: well not now, but it's worked on ;)
10:22mupuf: karolherbst: cooler as in, less warm? :D
10:23karolherbst: mupuf: yeah
10:23karolherbst: what did you think
10:23mupuf: no idea
10:23mupuf: mwk: you were right, it is a clock select
10:23mupuf: but it does not depend on the pixel clock
10:24Calinou: how good is Nouveau's support for hybrid GPU laptops (Optimus)?
10:24mupuf: I will slow down the clock as much as possible and then use a stop watch
10:24karolherbst: Calinou: pretty solid
10:25Calinou: as good as NVIDIA with primusrun? :p
10:25Calinou: I use that on my laptop right now
10:25karolherbst: just with worse gl perf
10:25Calinou: good performance, disables GPU properly after application shutdown
10:25karolherbst: Calinou: well with fermi the performance will suck
10:25Calinou: my laptop is Maxwell
10:25Calinou: and desktop is Fermi
10:25Calinou: (GTX 960M, GTX 570)
10:26karolherbst: ahh gm107
10:26mupuf: maxwell is not exactly perfectly supported but it is not the end of the world
10:26karolherbst: Calinou: you could try out my experimental maxwell_reclocking branch and get your gm107 fully reclocked with nouveau
10:26Calinou: my current setup works perfectly, I wouldn't like to break it :( it's just that I don't like using a proprietary driver
10:27Calinou: I read about the Nouveau boost patches btw, will those be merged in Linux 4.7-4.9 as Phoronix stated?
10:27karolherbst: Calinou: I have both installed and working at the "same" time
10:27karolherbst: Calinou: well bumblebeed is always running and bbswitch always loaded
10:27karolherbst: Calinou: but I can turn on the GPU and load nouveau at any time
10:28karolherbst: I just don't use vgaswitcheroo
10:28karolherbst: I mean
10:28karolherbst: well I use it
10:28karolherbst: but not the suspend/resume bits in nouveau
10:28karolherbst: and yeah, maybe if ben has time to review it, it will land in 4.8
10:29Calinou: nice, apparently you can play Xonotic in Ultimate in 4K with those patches
10:29Calinou: and a GTX 760
10:29karolherbst: xonotic doesn't really need much perf
10:29Calinou: it's the most demanding game I play
10:29karolherbst: so this is kind of "meh"
10:29karolherbst: I see
10:29karolherbst: well being able to play bioshock infinite at 4K is more like a "wow" thing
10:29Calinou: I want to make a FPS with Godot, that hopefully will look good :D
10:32Calinou: karolherbst: http://duion.com/games/uebergame/main
10:32Calinou: this is a pretty demanding open source game
10:32Calinou: looks quite good (don't mind the site and the name)
10:32Calinou: made with Torque 3D… but it doesn't run with Nouveau
10:32Calinou: or other open source drivers in general
10:33mupuf: mwk: ok, the other clock is the PCIe clock
10:33mupuf: 100 MHz
10:33karolherbst: Calinou: why not?
10:34Calinou: karolherbst: it just doesn't detect the graphics card
10:34Calinou: it has been reported in Torque 3D last year, no fix yet
10:34Calinou: blame developers :(
10:34karolherbst: what a stupid issue
10:34mupuf: mwk: so, now, the million dollar question, did nvidia get rid of the 100 MHz clock on newer chipsets... or they never routed the clock to SOR1 :s
10:36karolherbst: in crashes for real
10:36karolherbst: "The OpenGL renderer doesn't seem to be available. Trying the GFXNulDevice." ...
10:38karolherbst: at least it is open
10:39karolherbst: Calinou: fix should be merged
10:39Calinou: is it possible to force anti-aliasing/anisotropic filtering with Nouveau?
10:39Calinou: I know you can force vsync off with vblank_mode=0 <app name>
11:56karolherbst: mupuf: maybe there is somewhere a bit telling us if the PCIe clock is connected?
12:54pascal1080: http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/geforce-gtx-1080 http://www.geforce.com/hardware/10series/geforce-gtx-1080
12:55pascal1080: can someone please add Pascal to https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/CodeNames/
12:55pascal1080: GP104 is the GPU
14:47ectospasm: I have an issue with DPMS when using nouvea. My monitors begin to shut off, they display their "lost signal" screen, then just before they go into power saving mode (with an orange LED instead of a blue LED, indicating they're asleep/in standby), they come back on and DPMS appears to be totally ignored.
14:48ectospasm: If I use the nvidia driver, DPMS works, but I have other issues which are more dire (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=212087)
14:49ectospasm: I have an NVIDIA Corporation GF119 [NVS 310] (rev a1), with identical Ancor Communications Inc ASUS VS228s attached.
14:49ectospasm: (I'm running Linux kernel 4.5.1-1-ARCH on Arch Linux)
15:27imirkin: Calinou: in general, nouveau is pretty conformant wrt GL. there are a few odd ends where we ignore the spec, but they should be hard to encounter in an actual application.
15:27imirkin: Calinou: there's no way to force aniso or aa levels... aniso would be doable, but forcing AA is ~impossible to do generically
15:28imirkin: ectospasm: try booting with drm.debug=0x1e which should print a ton of info about wtf is going on.
15:29ectospasm: imirkin: where would it print the info?
15:31imirkin: ectospasm: dmesg
15:31ectospasm: imirkin: OK
15:50Calinou: imirkin: :( some old games don't have aniso/AA options
15:50Calinou: also, the proprietary driver manages to force MSAA or FXAA just fine
16:06ectospasm: imirkin: I don't see anything new related to DPMS in dmesg when I run xset dpms force off
16:07ectospasm: imirkin: I do see DPMS state is turned on for both displays early in dmesg
18:09imirkin: Calinou: yeah, in some cases it's possible, but not generally so. having the option ended up causing more problems than it was worth, so we removed it.
18:09imirkin: Calinou: having a aniso forcing option would make sense though
18:10imirkin: ectospasm: pastebin dmesg? also, IME, you have to run "sleep 1 && xset dpms force off" - otherwise the last keyboard action ends up waking up the monitor
18:10imirkin: i.e. the command runs on enter-key-down, but then enter-key-up happens, and the screen wakes back up
20:30karolherbst: mupuf: is the titan in reator? I think I will take a look into the new clock thingy tomorrow
20:33karolherbst: mupuf: also, you have to check for LEDS_CLASS in your LED code
21:11karolherbst: mupuf: by the way, xpad totally abuses the LED subdev. brightness 1: all 4 leds blink, 2: led1 blink... 6: led1 on
21:13mupuf: karolherbst: yeah, I know for LED_CLASS
21:13karolherbst: ahh okay
21:13mupuf: I wrote an email telling I would send the patch again with it
21:13karolherbst: didn't got that
21:13mupuf: oh, hmm
21:14mupuf: I sent it to myself and not the ML
21:14mupuf: lovely! Idiot right here
21:14mupuf: the titan is not in because Samuel needs the two cards there are right now
21:14karolherbst: until when?
21:15RSpliet: mupuf: only two? what happened to all those PCI cards? :-P
21:15mupuf: well, hard to tell, but he is pretty close
21:15karolherbst: setting the clocks right can wait a little anyway
21:15karolherbst: because it seems to be usually fine
21:15mupuf: RSpliet: I got rid of it because it was ... slowing down how quickly I could reload nouveau
21:15mupuf: yeah, it can wait a little
21:15karolherbst: but the CSTEP table contains funny clocks which doesn't match the old pattern anymore
21:16karolherbst: so we set different clocks in the end
21:18uvuli: fermi hacked?
21:26mupuf: karolherbst: I hope I can find a fix for the GBM issue too!
21:26mupuf: because it is nuts...
22:53Calinou: does Nouveau support 3840x2160 output?
22:54Calinou: and 2 monitors at that resolution? :P
22:54imirkin: Calinou: as long as the underlying hw can do it, sure
22:55Calinou: cool :)
22:58aeqrs25: Good night, I'm running on my pc ubuntu gnome 15.10 with nouveau everythings fine my system is ok but i'm having some issues when i try to play minecraft with 1.8.8 vanilla i'm getting something like 12 to 20 fps on minimum in 1920x1080 and thats is very strange because i have a gtx 650 someone can help me? sorry for the bad english
22:59imirkin: aeqrs25: by default, your gpu is clocked at whatever speed it comes up at. for a GTX 650, that's most likely to be the lowest perf level.
22:59Calinou: aeqrs25: Nouveau currently doesn't reclockg your card automatically
22:59Calinou: you need to do it manually, and to use a recent kernel
22:59Calinou: (so, upgrade to 16.04 ASAP)
23:00Calinou: and it's not trouble-free, some GPUs won't like it
23:00imirkin: aeqrs25: you should be able to attempt reclocking manually on your kernel
23:00imirkin: aeqrs25: if you boot with nouveau.pstate=1, that should create a file in sysfs you can use to control the pstate
23:01aeqrs25_: And how can i do this reclock?
23:01imirkin: cat /sys/class/drm/card0/device/pstate -- if that file is there, you can echo values in there
23:01imirkin: if not, you need to boot with nouveau.pstate=1
23:02imirkin: do you have ddr3 or gddr5 vram?
23:02aeqrs25_: aeqrs25@capivara:~$ cat /sys/class/drm/card0/device/pstate cat: /sys/class/drm/card0/device/pstate: No such file or directory
23:03imirkin: what kernel are you on?
23:03imirkin: iirc you really want at least kernel 4.4 if you have GDDR5 vram
23:03aeqrs25_: 4.2.0-16 generic
23:06aeqrs25_: I will try to update my kernel
23:07imirkin: with kernel 4.5 that pstate file moves into debugfs btw
23:20aeqrs25_: Restarting right now lets see if the kernel is working
23:22karolherbst: Calinou: we have a report of working 2x 4K@60 + 1x 4K@30 working (with a little workaround)
23:25Calinou: I want to get 2x 4K monitors next year
