02:36 karolherbst: what does "160653: message: shader compiler issue 2" mean?
06:57 Tom^: karolherbst: is saints row native or using something like eON
07:08 karolherbst: EON
07:08 karolherbst: sry
07:08 karolherbst: eon
07:11 Tom^: then yea no surprise it runs like crap :P
07:11 Tom^: witcher 2 ran better in wine then in eON.
07:11 Tom^: wouldnt surprise me if saints row does too.
07:23 karolherbst: well saints row doesn't run in wine at all cause of d3d11
07:40 eballetbo: I just saw these messages on every boot, http://pastebin.com/ugyNerUt , video card works but sometimes freezes, are these messages expected? Any clue to know what exactly meant?
07:57 chillfan: hey :)
07:58 chillfan: Is there maybe any more info I could provide for gtx 780ti?
08:00 chillfan: If not once I have my laptop properly setup, is there something needed for NV110?
08:31 karolherbst: chillfan: nv110 needs testing I guess
08:31 karolherbst: find issues
08:31 karolherbst: report them
08:31 karolherbst: nv110 is maxwell 1gen so there is a lot to do
08:31 chillfan: alright, i'll give that a try when it's setup then :)
08:31 karolherbst: but imirkin is gone for a while so nobody will really look into that
08:32 karolherbst: and I doubt he will do until we have gen2 working anyway
08:32 chillfan: oh, i'll take a little time with it for a while
08:32 karolherbst: but yeah, nv110 needs testing
08:32 chillfan: to setup the laptop, it's just got the standard OS on there haven't got round to it yet
08:32 karolherbst: well you might want to fetch a recent kernel
08:32 damex: what is standard os?
08:32 karolherbst: + bleeding edge software
08:33 damex: i don't know one
08:33 chillfan: alright, debian sid linux 4.4?
08:33 karolherbst: mhhh
08:33 karolherbst: chillfan: use ubuntu
08:33 damex: use gentoo
08:33 damex: :D
08:33 chillfan: alright i'll look into that :)
08:33 karolherbst: or pmoreau boot disc
08:33 karolherbst: damex: and this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
08:33 karolherbst: ...
08:33 karolherbst: chillfan: ^
08:33 chillfan: damex: I mean the preinstalled awful proprietary OS which I feel to embarrased to say is on there
08:34 karolherbst: there should be also ppas for kernel
08:34 karolherbst: :D
08:34 karolherbst: chillfan: but with the xorg-edgers ppa you can pretty new software for the graphic stack so your libraries aren't too old
08:34 damex: on gentoo you can just use 9999 ebuilds
08:34 damex: and get over it
08:35 chillfan: hm what's the pmoreau thing?
08:35 pmoreau: karolherbst: I need to fix the image, some ABI conflicts with X 1.18 which I haven't looked into yet. Plus adding the headers…
08:35 karolherbst: ohh okay
08:36 karolherbst: damex: yeah well, gentoo is a bit hard to learn :/
08:36 pmoreau: chillfan: https://nouveau.pmoreau.org/
08:36 karolherbst: damex: the best thing so far I encountered (and most user friendly) is the ubuntu thing + ppas
08:36 damex: lol
08:36 karolherbst: well I would suggest to install kubuntu or xubuntu anyway
08:36 damex: try to fix something for ubuntu
08:36 damex: no damn way
08:36 karolherbst: well
08:36 karolherbst: this is for testing right?
08:37 damex: hm
08:37 chillfan: alright, guess I should choose some distro that will take that ppa above for now then
08:37 karolherbst: chillfan: yeah well
08:37 karolherbst: maybe xubuntu is the best choice then
08:37 damex: karolherbst, gentoo is not harder then making a lemon juice by yourself from a fresh lemons :)
08:37 karolherbst: well
08:38 karolherbst: gentoo is harder than the usual distributions
08:38 chillfan: I guess linuxmint would be an option too? it might be better to have preinstalled nvidia stuff I guess
08:38 karolherbst: well
08:38 damex: define harder
08:38 karolherbst: you need much more knowledge there in general
08:38 damex: uh
08:38 damex: everything documented
08:38 damex: like for monkeys
08:38 karolherbst: the installation yes
08:38 karolherbst: but most USE flag descriptions are stupid
08:38 damex: really?
08:38 damex: easy
08:39 chillfan: haha, well really I'll just want something quick to setup so xubuntu, mint etc seem right
08:39 karolherbst: damex: but I also use -* :D
08:39 karolherbst: I meant USE=-*
08:39 chillfan: it's only for testing so I can justify using proprietary stuff, or crapware if need be
08:39 chillfan: depending what options are
08:39 karolherbst: damex: there is hardly a way to have more fun on gentoo :D
08:39 chillfan: dunno too much about xubuntu, but canonical is a no for me :)
08:40 damex: karolherbst, i need gentoo to just work.
08:40 karolherbst: :p
08:40 karolherbst: chillfan: well xubuntu just uses the ubuntu packages, but with xfce preinstalled
08:41 karolherbst: so no unity
08:41 chillfan: ah so canonical cannot collect my meaningless data there probably
08:41 karolherbst: well it is commuity developed
08:43 chillfan: i'll have a go, will dual boot if I don't like it :)
08:46 chillfan: pmoreau: so are these basically images that are edged right up for nouveau testing?
08:49 pmoreau: chillfan: There were meant for Nouveau testing (with latest Mesa + Nouveau DDX + Nouveau kernel module), but changed to also include latest Intel + Radeon DDX)
08:49 chillfan: nice
08:50 chillfan: I'll keep an eye on that page as well then :)
08:50 pmoreau: Those were built daily, but since no one used them, I switched at some point to weekly.
08:51 chillfan: gives me a cheeky idea actually.. if nvidia graphics laptops come my way.. I'll boot this on them, take some info and nobody will know :p
08:52 pmoreau: :-D
08:54 tobijk: somebody knows if the libdrm 2.4.66 tarballs will show up soon? it seems ben forgot to create them :/
08:56 pmoreau: Neither is there a git tag for it on the repo
08:56 tobijk: ah right
08:56 tobijk: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/drm/commit/?id=f49bfd98b35e5794cb60bcc4613050dfa640940c should be tagged then :)
08:57 pmoreau: Right :-)
08:58 pmoreau: But I guess everyone is on vacation now, so it will probably wait until next year.
08:59 tobijk: hehe
08:59 tobijk: and he is on vacation now as well :D
11:03 Dezponia: Hmmm, seem phoronix did something weird with their latest reclocking tests again karolherbst, as you noted in the articles comments
11:04 Dezponia: karolherbst: I cant imagine that the 780Ti would perform so badly in Valley (not that I ran Valley myself on my card but still. also why no heaven benchmark from him anymore?)
11:31 Tom^: Dezponia: well the 780ti so far for both me and chillfan required a volt change to even run on 0f
11:31 Tom^: and without nvaboost you are on quite low core clock
11:32 Tom^: "config=NvBoost=3" that is.
11:32 Tom^: its on like 920 without it and 1087 with it. :P
11:50 karolherbst: Dezponia: yeah he emailed be actually
11:51 karolherbst: well he mailed me his vbios
11:51 karolherbst: :D
11:51 karolherbst: so I am pretty sure how nouveau will behave with that card
11:53 Tom^: did he have same volt issue?
11:53 Tom^: if not im gonna cry
12:00 karolherbst: mhh
12:00 karolherbst: no idea
12:00 karolherbst: it doesn't seem that his 780 ti reclocked at all
12:00 karolherbst: or maybe he didn't test this card then, because something went wrong
12:01 karolherbst: I would just wait until we have solved all the other issues and fix those reclocking stuff upstream
12:02 Tom^: well im happy right now, i can manually reclock it so :P
12:03 Tom^: tee pstate to 0f before gaming, tee it to 0a afterwards. so im more or less just waiting for awesome patches from imirkin in mesa ;)
12:12 Dezponia: karolherbst: Did he ever send you a vbios for that card? :P
12:39 karolherbst: yeah
12:39 karolherbst: today
12:40 karolherbst: :D
13:19 karolherbst: meh devs of saints row IV tries to tell us, that mesa has poor performance and therefore they don't want to support that, they also stated there are other resons :D
13:19 karolherbst: this is really sad to hear actually
13:59 karolherbst: skeggsb: I hope stuff is slowing down for you the last days :)
14:03 glisse: skeggsb: nvidia meeting ?
16:11 tobijk: skeggsb: we are missing the libdrm 2.4.66 anouncement as well as the git tag :)
16:13 damme: Hello guys, I am using an semi old laptop, but its rather popular, Dell e6400/6410. I own both models. It has a Nvidia GT218M [NVS 3100M] card. The problem I have is that the screen flickers in later versions of the graphic driver (This is the same for Windows And Linux)
16:13 damme: I'lve been using linux mint for a long while, but the configuration there and version I used dissapeared in a crash..
16:14 damme: So, my question is, How should I tackle this and get data on Why the screen is flickering on some drivers, and others not
16:14 damme: note - I am not alone
16:14 damme: this is a known problem of dell e6410/e6400
16:15 damme: the flicker is horizontal lines, almost like interlaced resolution but it's not
16:17 damme: is there any commands that dumps very verbose information about the current settings the driver has set?
16:18 damme: and, yes, it flickers in nouveau too :P (or well, it depends, which driver you latest were using)
16:19 damme: it 'sticks' ,, even flickers in BIOS after using 'wrong' driver..
16:19 damme: (persists was the word I was looking for)
16:49 tobijk: damme: if you know a nouveau driver version which works without flickering, you could git bisect to the bad commit, making it waay easier to determine what possible goes wrong
16:50 damme: yeah, good idea. I have some compiling to do... :)
