00:51pmoreau: Weaselweb: I saw that on the ML. :) I won't be able to help: way too many things to do until mid-June.
04:14dikiy_: Hi all! I have an GeForce 7300GS, it seems, that 3D must be supported be nouveau. But if I run glxgears, it comes any error-messages, but I see only the black square in the window of the glxgears.
04:14dikiy_: System: arch, last kernel. mesa-gl installed.
04:16dikiy_: output from glxinfo here: http://dpaste.com/26VMSP9
04:30dikiy_: anybody here?
04:36dikiy_: tobijk: Do I understand right, that GeForce7300GS must be supported by nouveau?
04:37tobijk: we'll we are a bunch of free developers who try to get the various cards working
04:38tobijk: they often may work, but there are sure problems
04:38dikiy_: glxinfo seems to report, that all ist ok.
04:39tobijk: well what is the problem you are facing? is there one at all? :D
04:39dikiy_: I tried to run some programs (self writed too). It seems, that the problem is in the rotate&translate.
04:40dikiy_: for example, I have a program, the do rotating and lightened cube. If I start the program I see the a properly lightened an shadowed cube, but there a any rotation.
04:42dikiy_: tobijk: here ist example of such program: http://dpaste.com/2J3J3H0
04:42tobijk: and that is working on other cards/drivers?
04:42dikiy_: yep. With an nvidia blob 3D works fine.
04:42dikiy_: this programs too.
04:43tobijk: maybe the nvidia driver has a bug?! just kidding...
04:44tobijk: can you as well create a bu at bugs.freedesktop.org?
04:44tobijk: so no info gets lost
04:46dikiy_: Oh no, yet another bugzilla project, I must to be at :)
04:46tobijk: heh, sorry bout that
04:46tobijk: product: xorg component: driver/nouveau
04:46dikiy_: but you have any suggestions, what the problem it ca be?
04:47tobijk: i have not, i'm not trained with the nouveau-vieux driver (the part that is working with your card)
04:52tobijk: dikiy_: the test app is workin with newer nivida cards and nouveau btw
07:45tobijk: dikiy_: the test app is workin with newer nivida cards and nouveau btw
07:46tobijk: sorry, (wrong window +arrow up + enter)
08:54hakzsam: imirkin_, Hey, just a reminder : I don't have commit access to mesa, so if you have some time in the next few days, could you push my patches? Thanks in advance
09:34imirkin_: hakzsam: and you should remember that i'm lazy, so have a branch ready i can just pull + rebase + push ;)
09:34imirkin_: tobijk: fyi, nv3x is not nouveau_vieux. nouveau_vieux is nv04-nv28
09:35hakzsam: I don't remember :-)
10:06tobijk: imirkin_: noted! :)
10:09Weaselweb: pmoreau: no problem. I just wanted to give the link FYI
11:49imirkin_: mwk: ng.0x04.net appears to be down... just fyi. i had your singlestepping doc open, so i mirrored it on my fd.o account
14:31Andril: hello :)
14:57Grokling: Hi all, I have two GT210s in my system, with two panels connected to each. I'm attempting to get Ubuntu-gnome 15.04 up and running. Using the 340.76 driver, xrandr only picks up one GPU (two screens). nvidia-settings sees both, xinerama appears to work, but renders me all black screens (ctrl+alt+f2 works, and I can use a tty session); nouveau seems to see both GPUs, but renders me all black screens.
14:57Grokling: Any suggestions?
14:59imirkin_: Grokling: presumably you're trying to use all 4 screens at once?
14:59imirkin_: if you don't care about direct rendering, i'd look at http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/MultiMonitorDesktop/
15:00imirkin_: basically that lets you use xinerama to create a single desktop with 4 screens
15:00Grokling: correct. I've had it working previously with nvidia driver + xinerama, but it all broke with a new kernel (or something)
15:00imirkin_: alternatively if you don't care about having 1 shared screen, you can bring up each card as a separate screen with 2 monitors attached to it
15:01imirkin_: in theory you could also use reverse prime, but in practice that won't work with 2 monitors being reverse-primed
15:01Grokling: I want one 'screen' of four monitors.
15:01imirkin_: this all applies to nouveau. i have no idea about nvidia.
15:01imirkin_: (there's a #nvidia channel where you can ask questions about blob drivers)
15:01Grokling: I just want it to work again.. and if nouveau can make it work.. that's what I'll use!
15:02imirkin_: that wiki link describes how to do xinerama with nouveau
15:02imirkin_: basically you have to break each gpu apart into 2 first, and then xinerama all 4 "devices" together
15:02Grokling: So, currently I have it booted with nouveau, I've got three screens 'awake', all are black. The fourth screen is 'asleep'.
15:02imirkin_: i assume you have some monster xorg.conf situation going on
15:03imirkin_: out of the box, you'll only be able to use 3 screens with most distros
15:03imirkin_: with the 3rd being piped through via "reverse prime"
15:03Grokling: At the moment, no xorg.conf at all. xrandr was hopefully going to sort that out.
15:03imirkin_: if you follow the instructions on the wiki, you should get all 4 going
15:04Grokling: Linux mint 17.1 (Mate) was working well until the upgrade.
15:04Grokling: I'm reading the wiki now. Thanks..
15:04imirkin_: skip to the "xinerama" section
15:04imirkin_: "Multiple cards and dual-head cards in Xinerama"
15:05imirkin_: some guy used a variant of that to make a video wall with 20 screens (5x NVS 450 cards or something like that)
15:06imirkin_: tbh the fact that all 3 of your screens are black doesn't inspire me with confidence though -- that's definitely surprising
15:06imirkin_: the fact that the 4th isn't doing anything isn't surprising though
15:07Grokling: If I ctrl+alt+f2, I get tty mirrored on both displays on GPU-0
15:07imirkin_: ok that's good
15:08imirkin_: high-resolution right?
15:08imirkin_: i.e. not 80x25?
15:08Grokling: I set up xinerama with the nvidia driver previously, and that was also black screens. Almost like gnome was trying to do some sort of compositing that xinerama didn't know about.
15:08Grokling: Yeah, full resolution.
15:08imirkin_: out of curiousity, which gpu chips are these? GT218?
15:09imirkin_: (there are a ton of diff GeForce 210's)
15:09imirkin_: yeah, gnome likes to do all kinds of crazy shenanigans nowadays
15:09imirkin_: dunno if i'd recommend using gnome + xinerama
15:09imirkin_: but i've also not used gnome since... a very long time
15:10Grokling: Yes, lspci says Nvidia Corporation GT218 [GeForce 210] (rev a2)
15:10imirkin_: ok cool
15:11Grokling: I'm not stuck on gnome. Cinnamon broke, Mate broke, so I thought I'd try closer to the mainstream in hopes of increased support. At the moment, I'll try just about anything (suggestions welcome..)
15:11imirkin_: i've been using WindowMaker since 1999 or so
15:22Grokling: imirkin_, kde perhaps? given that gnome3 seems to not work with xinerama at all (for me at least) maybe I do need to jump to a different DE
15:23imirkin_: i assume kde would have identical issues
15:23imirkin_: xinerama disables direct rendering
15:24imirkin_: so anything requiring a GL-based compositor is likely to end up in a world of hurt
15:24tobijk_: kde can work without direct rendering, unlike gnome3
15:24tobijk_: "disable effects"
15:24Grokling: I've been down the zaphod heads route before, with no success.
15:25imirkin_: ok, well, in general it has worked fine for a lot of people
15:25imirkin_: perhaps your exact software stack doesn't do xinerama
15:25imirkin_: in which case it obviously won't help
15:25Grokling: my 'exact software stack' being a fresh ISO installation of Ubuntu?
15:26imirkin_: in addition to your selection of software to use, yes.
15:26Grokling: Nothing selected at all. This is a raw installation.. nothing more yet (no point if it's not going to work for me!)
15:26imirkin_: clearly *something* is installed on there
15:27imirkin_: anyways, i know nothing about ubuntu
15:27imirkin_: but if someone told me that whatever it did by default broke with xinerama, i would not be the least surprised
15:28tobijk_: Grokling: try another distribution and check if you have a frsh install anyway you wont have to worry about settings you changed :D
15:28Grokling: My gut feeling at the moment is that it's gnome + xinerama that doesn't play. It didn't work with an earlier version (I've been on MATE for 3 years or so for that reason).
15:29imirkin_: i'd certainly believe that
15:29Grokling: I've got kubuntu downloading atm, so we'll see what happens there.
15:30tobijk_: i'd try another non-ubutu flavor once, thes may be a ubuntu bug after all
15:30Grokling: All this because new versions of Chrome crash the GPU using the kernel I had..
15:30marcheu: Grokling: pass --disable-gpu to chrome and move on
15:31daidoji: hello nouveau, https://gist.github.com/daidoji/15ce387214c04d1fc19c
15:32daidoji: I am having trouble and was hoping someone could help me setup MST chaining
15:32imirkin_: daidoji: nouveau does not presently support DP-MST
15:32daidoji: imirkin_: oh really?
15:32Grokling: marcheu if I'd known that ~36hrs ago, I'd have given it a try before "upgrading". Really though, this was going to happen eventually.
15:32daidoji: imirkin_: I have it setup so it mirrors
15:33imirkin_: daidoji: ben had a version going here: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~darktama/nouveau/log/?h=devel-mst but it's a year old
15:33daidoji: oh really?
15:33daidoji: what are my options then?
15:33imirkin_: well, i think it'll mirror by default
15:33daidoji: imirkin_: ahhh, I see
15:33imirkin_: in that it won't realize that you have chaining going on
15:33daidoji: got ya
15:33imirkin_: and both monitors just get the same stream
15:34imirkin_: skeggsb_: any update on MST?
15:35imirkin_: daidoji: btw, you're using the 'modesetting' driver instead of 'nouveau'. this should be mostly ok, but wanted to point it out.
15:36daidoji: imirkin_: oh really? I think I have it so that X automagically configures itself. Would I have to have an Xorg.conf to fix that issue?
15:37imirkin_: daidoji: you're probably just missing the 'nouveau' driver
15:37daidoji:googles modesetting driver right now
15:37daidoji: hmmm, nouveau appears via lsmod
15:38imirkin_: right, that's the kernel module
15:38Grokling: speaking of modesetting and offloading - I wondered if offloading one of my gpus would work - then xrandr would see just one potential output and might work properly?
15:38tobijk_: the X server driver :>
15:38imirkin_: Grokling: that's the reverse prime thing i talked about...
15:38daidoji: imirkin_: ahhhh, so there's a userspace nouveau too?
15:38imirkin_: unfortunately, X only supports 1 screen being reverse-primed
15:38imirkin_: daidoji: the DDX component, yes... that plugs into X
15:39imirkin_: [or perhaps X supports multiple screens being reverse-primed, but doesn't support offsets, which has the same end-result]
15:39Grokling: imirkin_, Ah. thanks for the clarification - I'll scratch that off the list of potentials.
15:39tobijk_: daidoji: as imirkin_ already noted: xf86-video-nouveau on most distributions
15:39imirkin_: actually a lot of distros like to rename it to something semi-random
15:39daidoji: imirkin_: ahhh thanks, I don't know much about this stuff
15:40imirkin_: xorg-xserver-video-nouveau for example
15:40daidoji: yeah I have that package installed
15:40imirkin_: hm, well, dunno why X doesn't autoprobe it
15:40imirkin_: it apparently tries to probe the nvidia blob driver
15:41daidoji: oh yeah, I had the proprietary driver loaded but attempted to remove it
15:41tobijk_: and the nv driver...
15:41daidoji: I guess it didn't totally work
15:41tobijk_: [ 166.842] (EE) module ABI major version (15) doesn't match the server's version (18)
15:41tobijk_: driver compiled for old x server...
15:42tobijk_: daidoji: get a driver compiled for you current xserver version
15:42skeggsb_: imirkin_: i'd planned on bringing it in as part of a far far larger modesetting rework in general, but that's stalled for the moment, i was talking to airlied yesterday saying i've been thinking of hackign mst into the current code in the meantime
15:42daidoji: tobijk_: okay
15:43imirkin_: skeggsb_: yeah, you've been talking about the atomic rework since before atomic existed :p
15:43skeggsb_: imirkin_: i'll probably also recomment modesetting over nouveau for mst when it comes, instead of porting over the dynamic connector stuff..
15:43imirkin_: seems reasonable
15:43imirkin_: esp if that recommendation is made in the form of "driver doesn't load"
15:44imirkin_: i wonder if there's a way to fail to autoprobe
15:44skeggsb_: well, that's just an idea i have atm, doesn't mean anyone else will agree with me that it's a good idea :P
15:44imirkin_: but still load if someone explicitly sets a driver in an xorg.conf
15:46daidoji: roger, thanks for your help. Just so I'm clear 1. DP-MST not currently supported in nouveau 2. Modesetting is okay even though its not nouveau 3. compile driver for current xserver version?
15:47imirkin_: daidoji: yep!
15:47daidoji: also, whats the best place to learn about all this stuff? Any books/blog posts/web sites etc.. to recommend?
15:47imirkin_: daidoji: which stuff is "this stuff"?
15:47skeggsb_: imirkin_: probably should put some effort into finding out why (occasionally) fonts aren't rendered with glamor (both on nouveau and modesetting)
15:48skeggsb_: nfi if it's a glamor bug, or a 3d driver one
15:48tobijk_: daidoji: try stuff - ask around like you do right now :)
15:48daidoji: I guess I don't know much about how display works, although I'm not a novice at systems programming. I'd be interesting in learning but the few times I've tried I've been overwhelmed
15:48imirkin_: skeggsb_: on maxwell? i assumed it was texturing fail.
15:48daidoji: tobijk_: haha thanks I will do so
15:48skeggsb_: i use modesetting on my gk107 daily too, happens there
15:48imirkin_: daidoji: yeah, it's a huge learning curve. my recommendation is to focus on one little thing and understand it, and then expand from there
15:49imirkin_: skeggsb_: bleh ok. so much for that theory.
15:49daidoji: imirkin_: roger
15:49imirkin_: could be that stupid texbar bug i noticed
15:49tobijk_: skeggsb_: is saw that a few days ago as well on intel
15:49daidoji: thanks for yall's help!
15:49skeggsb_: tobijk_: ah, well, that's good to know
15:49skeggsb_: tobijk_: keithp rewrote the glamor glyphs code recently i see on xorg-devel, so, maybe that'll take care of it
15:50tobijk_: oh...gets me rid of xf86-video-intel maybe :D
16:39Grokling: imirkin_, You'd never believe this.. I just (as in haven't yet touched keyboard or mouse) rebooted after installing kubuntu. Four screens are alive, with proper resolution. I feel like I'm hallucinating or something.
16:40tobijk_: ehm gnome3... ehm ;-)
17:02imirkin: Grokling: a little curious which drivers it's using... mind pasting xorg log and 'xrandr' output?
17:04Grokling: imirkin, seems to have been using nouveau.
17:11Grokling: imirkin, Xorg.0.log is ~12MB by now.
17:11Grokling: xrandr -q : http://pastebin.com/L9CHTcSf
17:15Grokling: Interesting.. xrandr --listproviders : http://pastebin.com/3YR7DKSf
17:19imirkin: whoa, why's the xorg log so big
17:19imirkin: it should be moderately small
17:20imirkin: huh, and the VGA-1-2 screen works?
17:22Grokling: Yeah, everything works. BUT, I can't get the screens in the right layout.. Think I need to make an xorg.conf to make it stick.
17:23imirkin: mmm... not sure that it's possible
17:23imirkin: you might have to teach your DE about it
17:23Grokling: Just tried the nvidia proprietary driver, now I'm back to one GPU in --listproviders.
17:23Grokling: The DE seems to dynamically organise things depending on what's connected. So disconnecting cables to reconnect them to a panel in the correct location is counterproductive!
20:47lynxcat: hello, I experienced crash yesterday with nouveau and suspend
20:47lynxcat: the screen gone black but I was able to flip numlock for a while
20:48lynxcat: then after minute or so, it stuck
20:48lynxcat: hardware is nvc0, uptime was 29 days with suspend every day
20:48lynxcat: is a netconsole is my friend when suspending? I tried to ssh from phone with no reply
20:56lynxcat: oops, not nvc0 but nvc1
22:23Grokling: Can anyone help me troubleshoot an invisible mouse issue? I have two GT218 cards (four screens), running a fresh install of kubuntu, Everything seems to be working (even the mouse) but I can't see the mouse pointer. I've tried changing the cursor theme, but that didn't help.
22:24Grokling: All posts I've found so far suggest installing an older version of the nvidia driver, but the nvidia driver doesn't seem to play with xrandr well enough to run my four screens. Nouveau has it working nicely (aside from the mouse issue)
