02:53Ukaz: Does anyone can tell when nouveau will support the Nvidia maxwell cards (geforce 9x0) ?
02:54Yoshimo: i think the ball is in NVIDIAs field now, i think we are still missing firmware files
02:55Ukaz: ok thanks !
02:59RSpliet: of course, devs can always try nicking the firmware from the blob O:-)
13:38cellsheet: Hello, I'm having a nouveau driver issue where it wont load in linux from scratch
13:56tobijk: cellsheet: lets start with pasting dmesg...without we dont have any info
14:13cellsheet: tobijk, I have some error messages from LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo
14:14cellsheet: this was just after i compiled all of x.org per instructions
14:14tobijk: wel lets start with dmesg
14:14tobijk: then we can go from there
14:14imirkin: cellsheet: saying you have error messages is meaningless... pastebin the messages, and preferably the full logs (dmesg, Xorg log, glxinfo output)
14:14cellsheet: Yeah I was just about to haha
14:15cellsheet: I'll fetch some more
14:17cellsheet: the messages below those errors: http://sprunge.us/jPJf
14:18tobijk: cellsheet: well after all you are not using nouveau
14:18tobijk: but we miss dmesg :>
14:18cellsheet: yeah one second
14:19cellsheet: I compiled the nouveau drivers and set that in my xorg.conf though
14:20tobijk: dmesg looks fine at least
14:20tobijk: you are sure you provided all libs for xf86-video-nouveau?
14:20tobijk: especially libdrm in a recent version
14:21imirkin: cellsheet: xorg log please (/var/log/Xorg.0.log)
14:21cellsheet: Let me get my xorg.0.log
14:22cellsheet: and yeah I installed all recommended/required modules for the drivers on that package @ tobijk
14:22imirkin: [ 42.390] (**) NOUVEAU(0): Option "AccelMethod" "glamor"
14:22imirkin: you want nothing to do with that
14:23cellsheet: oh ok
14:23imirkin: some sort of nouveau + glamor interaction breaks DRI2
14:23imirkin: which in turn leads to sad times
14:23cellsheet: what about exa? someone had mentioned that i think before on a thread
14:23imirkin: just remove the AccelMethod and let it pick the default
14:23imirkin: (which is EXA)
14:24imirkin: works great on kepler
14:24imirkin: doesn't work on maxwell, but... not a problem for you
14:24RSpliet: there's very little that works on maxwell anyway :p
14:24tobijk: yeah i was just typing that :D
14:25imirkin: RSpliet: actually almost everything works, once you extract blow ctxsw fw
14:25cellsheet: so if i were to someday re-do this then erase glamor out of anthing i do?
14:25imirkin: RSpliet: for GM107 at least. for GM204 only modesetting.
14:25tobijk: just dont use glamor for now
14:25imirkin: cellsheet: well, i'm told it's the future. but certainly in the present it doesn't work so hot with nouveau
14:25tobijk: maybe it'll get the default someday
14:25RSpliet: imirkin: rly? oh that's a lot better than what Thierry and Alex thought :p
14:25cellsheet: let me reboot to see if that addresses it..
14:26imirkin: RSpliet: GM204 is modesetting only. that's GTX 960/970/980
14:26RSpliet: yes I know :)
14:26imirkin: RSpliet: GM107 has pretty complete support. there are a few funky bugs in mesa i've been unable to defeat, partly because i don't have one. skeggsb_ suspects it might be lack of vertex flush somewhere
14:26cellsheet: same output :L
14:27RSpliet: do GM107 and GM204 share an ISA?
14:27cellsheet: will i need to re-compile some packages?
14:27imirkin: RSpliet: dunno. afaik only ben has a GM204, i don't know that he's done mmt traces of the thing.
14:27imirkin: RSpliet: is there a SM60 or something in the cuda docs? GM107 is SM50.
14:27tobijk: cellsheet: did you configure the driver without exa (dont know if it is possible)
14:28imirkin: cellsheet: pastebin xorg log
14:29cellsheet: xorg.0.log: http://sprunge.us/dEEC
14:29RSpliet: imirkin: I'd be surprised if it does though, anyway... cool
14:30imirkin: cellsheet: [ 42.390] (**) NOUVEAU(0): Option "AccelMethod" "glamor"
14:30imirkin: still there
14:30cellsheet: tobijk, i can pastebin the compiler flags for nouveau I used
14:30imirkin: remove that from your xorg.conf
14:30cellsheet: yeah I did
14:30tobijk: well first remove glamor, which i thought you had done
14:30cellsheet: oh wait..
14:30imirkin: cellsheet: you obviously didn't, since it's saying that it's there... ** means "from config file"
14:30RSpliet: imirkin: or it's the wrong URL
14:31cellsheet: wait yeah, sorry I didn't re-paste
14:31cellsheet: after reboot: http://sprunge.us/GVNB
14:32cellsheet: I'm not sure if glamoregl is an issue too
14:33imirkin: ok, that log looks *way* better
14:33imirkin: can you pastebin the (full) LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo output?
14:34imirkin: [with the current setup, not the old one]
14:35cellsheet: imirkin, http://sprunge.us/DFaW
14:35cellsheet: it for some reason doesn't like to include the error lines when dumping the output of glxinfo..
14:35imirkin: OpenGL vendor string: nouveau
14:35imirkin: OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on NVE4
14:35imirkin: looks all happy
14:36imirkin: any issues?
14:36imirkin: such as...
14:36cellsheet: sorry one second
14:37cellsheet: LibGL: Driver does not expose __driDriverGetExtensions_nouveau(): /usr/lib/dri/nouveau_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driDriverGetExtensions_nouveau
14:37imirkin: ok... that's not a problem though
14:37cellsheet: also LibGL: Can't open configuration file /home/jacob/.drirc No such file or directory
14:37imirkin: again, not an issue
14:39cellsheet: Yep ^^ thank you
14:39tobijk: cellsheet: for the .drirc: you can provide one for every user, mostly this is not needed, the global one is enough
14:40cellsheet: Ah what should the default look like?
14:40imirkin: cellsheet: check /etc/drirc
14:40tobijk: mh mesa brings one afaik
14:41cellsheet: imirkin, thank you :)
14:41imirkin: RSpliet: looks like there's a SM52... probably same as SM50 though, they also have a SM30 and SM32. But SM35 was way different from SM30...
14:41imirkin: RSpliet: so once we get accel going, i bet mesa will be mostly good
17:13Waxhead: I have had a look at the feature matrix as well as the power management stuff. Long story short - I have a GeForce 660, any known problems running three monitors on that card "out of the box" with nouveau drivers compared to nvidia's own drivers?!
17:14imirkin: no special problems due to the 3 monitors afaik
17:14Waxhead: imirkin: ok, so it would (hopefully) be worth the change then ;)
17:15imirkin: reclocking is unlikely to work, at least not to the highest power level
17:15imirkin: mesa doesn't have full GL 4.x support
17:15Waxhead: imirkin: how about cuda stuff? (blender for example?!)
17:15imirkin: no support at all
17:15Waxhead: I see openCL is stalled so that was bad :(
17:16imirkin: cuda is nvidia-proprietary. there could theoretically be opencl support but, as you mention, support isn't really there.
17:16Waxhead: indeed.... anyway - I think I will give it a shot someday. I would really like to try nouveau :)
17:17imirkin: opencl support or nouveau?
17:20imirkin: well it should largely work out of the box
17:20Waxhead: I hope so... last time I tested it (a few years ago) it seemed to work fine for dual monitors , tripple (with two graphics cards) did not work well tough :)
17:21imirkin: yeah, multiple graphics cards isn't super-well supported
17:22koz_desktop: I think one of these days I'm gonna set up an SLI with two 650s.
17:22koz_desktop: Just to give you guys some data.
17:23Waxhead: Oh... before I go - if I am not mistaking there is a quadro fx card at work about to be thrown away. Anyone interested?!
17:24imirkin: Waxhead: which one, and where are you?
17:24Waxhead: I live in Norway - I can't remember what card it is right now.
17:24imirkin: perhaps mupuf would be interested... he's in finland right now
17:24Waxhead: but rest assured that I will save it
17:26Waxhead: anyway... there is a potential interest in a quadro card. Ok , I'll pop in here in a day or two and link to a picture of it and we'll see who is interested. If not it's for the gremlins at the trashheap :)
17:27imirkin: Waxhead: just grab the model number
17:28Waxhead: will do.... good night for now :)
