14:44towo`: Hello. I have a Radeon 7600XT running with kernel 6.17-rc7 on Debian unstable. This card is not displayed as an audio device with lspci. All necessary modules are present and nothing is blacklisted. I also tried radeon.audio=1 as a boot parameter, but still, the card does not show up as an audio device. Does anyone have any idea where else I could look?
14:55_ds__: You'd want amdgpu.audio, not radeon.audio. In case anybody else can help: anything interesting in the kernel log, and what's in /sys/module/amdgpu/parameters/audio?
14:55Venemo: towo`: the 7600XT works with amdgpu (the new driver) and not radeon (the old driver)
14:56Venemo: towo`: it would only show up as an audio device when you plugged in a DP or HDMI display that actually supports audio
15:05_ds__: … and they'll show up regardless in /proc/asound/devices.
15:08towo`: I have a monitor with oudio connected over DP
15:09towo`: *audio
15:10towo`: grr, i indead have amdgpu.audio=1 useed, sorry for the wrong writing
15:11towo`: /sys/module/amdgpu/parameters/audio shows 1
15:12soreau: towo`: have you checked in `dmesg` or kernel log to see if there are any relevant messages?
15:57MrCooper: Venemo: FWIW, according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_Core_Next the first GCN product was released at the start of 2012 (which is consistent with my memory, joining AMD in July 2011 to work on SI bringup)
16:30towo`: soreau: nothing relevant
16:40dwfreed: pastebin it anyway?
17:06towo`: https://termbin.com/a4z7 but i have now tested with debian testing + kernel 6.16.3 and lspcvi is showing the device, in plasma i can change to it but sadly hear nothing
17:08soreau: towo`: does the monitor you're testing with have speakers that are 'turned up'? maybe something in your monitor settings?
17:09towo`: yes, i have changed the volume up to 100% in monitor settings and even played with the setting "Audio on/off", but nothing
17:13towo`: what makes me wonder, debian testing with kernel 6.16.3 sees at least the device, so i ask myself, what could be wrong in my kernel 6.17 config
17:17_ds__: $ diff <(grep \^CONFIG_SND_ /boot/config-6.16.*) <(grep \^CONFIG_SND_ /boot/config-6.17.*)
17:17dwfreed: I mean, the absence of the PCI device completely suggests more issues than just drivers
17:18soreau: towo`: maybe there's some bndwidth issue? what resolution and refresh rate are you using?
17:43towo`: soreau: 3440x1440 @60 Hz
18:42towo`: towo:Defiant> cat /sys/module/amdgpu/parameters/dc
18:42towo`: -1 <= doesn't look right?
18:53dwfreed: -1 means automatic
19:28Venemo: MrCooper: I see, I guess I was off by a year
