14:56 Venemo: does anyone have Kaveri around here?
16:58 DottorLeo: hi!
20:12 johnny0: Venemo: let me know what you need w.r.t. kaveri
20:48 Venemo: johnny0: I'd like to see how well it works with DC
20:49 Venemo: johnny0: first, I'd like to see a dmesg log from Kaveri from a normal boot with amdgpu, and next I'd like to boot with amdgpu.dc=1 and see a dmesg log then, and see what works and what doesn't.
20:50 Venemo: johnny0: apparently some (most? all?) laptops that used Kaveri, had some bridge chips to connect LVDS and analog signals to Kaveri, and those bridges may not work with DC. actually nobody has been able to give me a definitive answer if it works or not, so I just assume not.
20:52 johnny0: i think all, there's also something with the other outputs too -- something like a bridge chip being used for HDMI as well
20:53 Venemo: maybe. I don't know exactly.
20:55 Venemo: I'd like to switch all gfx6-7 (SI and CI) chips to use amdgpu by default, and I'm not sure how well the APUs would work with DC
20:55 johnny0: anyway, i know DC works as expected (VRR over DP works, hdmi+dvi-d working), and I'm pretty sure the old path also worked (though no VRR)
20:56 Venemo: does the analog output also work on DC?
20:57 johnny0: I haven't tried, I can look to dig out a VGA cable and test when the machine is idle
20:59 Venemo: I'd appreciate that
21:00 Venemo: if all outputs of Kaveri work well, then we could flip that one to use DC by default and basically all of gfx7 could use amdgpu by default at that point
21:20 Ristovski: Venemo: Hmm, I'll see if I can dig up my SI laptop maybe.. (si/hsw muxless)
21:21 Ristovski: though I guess that might be futile, I assume DC implies the output being on the amdgpu side, as opposed to something like PRIME
21:29 Venemo: Ristovski: DC is the new display driver. it is responsible for driving the outputs connected to your GPU
21:29 Venemo: Ristovski: all testing is appreciated
21:32 johnny0: Venemo: okay, so with DC on 6.1.y, the analog output isn't enumerated in /sys/class/drm/; kernel log has "[drm] Unsupported Connector type:5!" right before DC finishes init
21:37 johnny0: newer kernels are noisier but have the same message
21:40 Venemo: johnny0: right, I assume you are trying that without my analog connector series.
21:40 Venemo: johnny0: can you please pastebin a dmesg log for me, without DC?
21:49 johnny0: I'll let you know if I can sneak it in a few minutes, otherwise I need to delay 8hr or so
21:58 Ristovski: Venemo: my question was more whether DC gets used at all, if its the iGPU (haswell in my case) thats driving the display itself (muxless). Though I _think_ the HDMI out is connected directly to the SI gpu
21:59 johnny0: Venemo: I can sneak the test in, back in a few
22:30 johnny0: Venemo: okay, I pmed you a dc=0 log
