05:42tarceri: soreau: all the other bug reports about name reuse have been reported as fixed by my latest MR so really not sure what is going on in your case. I'll hopefully have is merged soon just waiting for the gitlab move to finish.
08:16matei: hi
08:16matei: anyone online
08:18matei: somebody speak please
08:18matei: \
08:18matei: hello
08:18matei: anyone online
08:19matei: hello???
08:19MrCooper: relax
08:19matei: ok
08:19matei: sorry i thought i was in a simulation
08:19matei: anyway i had a question
08:19matei: why is userbenchmark so biased
08:20matei: against amd
08:26HdkR: I doubt anyone in here has any insight in to that website
08:28Venemo: userbenchmark simply hates amd. why? nobody knows, you should ask them.
08:33matei: hi
08:33matei: stupid nickserv
08:33Venemo: hi
09:18matei: hi
09:22soreau: tarceri: well that's good.. hopefully I missed something and your patches do fix the problem. I will try testing after they are merged. Also I was under the impression the migration is basically complete and things should be ready for marge?
09:23soreau: or are the runners are still not working yet
09:26soreau: tarceri: the reason I'm thinking that it's not a race is because it still happens with GALLIUM_THREAD=0 mesa_glthread=0
12:57agd5f: calico, not sure. I don't have an AGP system any more.
15:16Venemo: calico: did that system work with Linux at any point in the past?
15:17Venemo: if it did, I suggest bisecting the issue
15:18Venemo: if it never worked, it's unlikely that you can find anyone to fix it now, unless you can do it yourself. sorry to say that but that seems to be the sad reality
15:18calico: Venemo: Yup. Definitly. When I was 12-13 yo I was using Ubuntu 12 but at the time the GPU was the Radeon 9250 AGP and I don't know if I was using the Radeon driver or proprietary one.
15:19Venemo: calico: then the first thing you could try is get an image of Ubuntu 12 and see if that works, then Ubuntu 13, 14 ... and find where it broke.
15:20calico: k
15:21calico: will do
15:21Venemo: if it doesn't work even with Ubuntu 12 (that you remember working) - then it may be a hardware defect or you may have indeed used the old proprietary driver. I'm unsure if that is available anywhere these days, probably not really
15:22Venemo: that being said, if you enjoy playing with old GPUs, I would recommend to get a GCN 1 card, they can be found pretty cheaply on the used market
15:22superkuh: Ubuntu 10.04 is the best Ubuntu released. Might as well install it and use the old.whatever.repos.
15:23Venemo: on a GCN 1 card you could even play modern games, albeit (obviously) not at the best settings; and you'd enjoy it still being supported by radv
15:28calico: I've also newer puters near me of course. My goal with the ASUS A8V isn't really to be able to game on it, just get it working properly again.
15:29calico: So far I'm pretty lucky cause the caps still look good after all those years.
15:30Venemo: sounds like a worthy hobby, but keep in mind that anyone who used to work on it has moved on from that a long, long time ago. so the best we can do here is just guess
15:30calico: k
15:52calico: it's also for learning I want do that btw
15:52calico: until I fixed the bug in the SKGE I knew nothing about how the kernel and modules were working
15:53calico: now I know a little bit more
16:05Venemo: that's why I said it's a worthy hobby
16:14calico: I guess the devs who write the radeon kernel module and mesa drivers had access to good doc like card specs? Any clue if I could get it somewhere?
16:16calico: *card specs --> I meant datasheet, things like that.
16:16Ermine: I'm afraid they all are NDAd
16:17calico: NDAd?
16:18Ermine: they are under NDAs
16:18calico: Non disclosure Agreement ... k
16:22calico: wait ... I know it's AMD IP and all ... but will they really care in like 20-40 years?
16:24Ermine: afaik so far the only public thing now is r128 docs
16:25Ermine: though... there are ISA docs for everything iirc
16:27calico: r128 docs? that's good :P If I see the driver of the 3D Rage Pro AIW is also broken it could be useful :P
16:28calico: yes I got that card too
17:07agd5f: the available documentation is available on developer.amd.com. You can find direct links as well here: https://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature/?updated
17:37calico: thx
18:15calico: Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS UI is so beautiful reminds me so much my childhood
18:23calico: mesa utils isn't installed in the LiveGUI, but running "lspci -nnk | egrep -i --color 'vga|3d|2d' -A3 | grep 'in use'" shows that radeon is used
20:15Venemo: calico: well, is it working?
20:16calico: for Ubuntu 12.04.5 and 14.04.6 apparently yes, but I only tried the live GUI
20:16calico: I'll try 16 soon
20:21calico: Ubuntu 18.04 is broken
20:40calico: Ubuntu 16.04.7 works too but the SKGE driver of the NIC is broken.
20:41Venemo: I suggest dealing with one problem at a time
20:42Venemo: if Ubuntu 16 works and 18 is broken, my best guess is that there was a kernel or mesa (or firmware) change between them that is responsible for the breakage
20:42Venemo: I suggest to start with the kernel.
20:43Venemo: try to install the older kernel version on Ubuntu 18 and see if that helps
20:43Venemo: eventually if you find which release caused the issue you can bisect the git repo
20:45agd5f: calico, could be this issue: https://lore.kernel.org/all/20220423193145.3301ed06@desktop/
20:47agd5f: calico, this patch may fix it: https://lore.kernel.org/all/20221212020821.8248-1-luben.tuikov@amd.com/
20:48calico: could that patch work on kernel 6 too?
20:48agd5f: I think it should apply to most recent kernels
20:48calico: good
20:48calico: will try it
20:49calico: some years ago, I also tried OpenBSD and the bug is also present
20:49calico: I'll give another try
20:50agd5f: no idea what the status of openbsd support is
20:59calico: will give it a little try before reinstalling gentoo
20:59calico: just to make sure
21:47calico: agd5f: if it's really that specific bug, it's strange I don't see him refering to gpu lockups like me in his logs
22:39_ds_:sees “Ubuntu 18” and “kernel 6” and waits for “Mesa 13” or “Mesa 24”
