04:20 dviola: MrCooper: trying that
04:47 dviola: now that I've attached gdb to Xwayland the issue won't come up
06:13 dviola: MrCooper: I had it happen with two other games now that are not factorio, I suspect there is some funny input issue with my keyboard and/or Steam and whatever is causing it is closing the Steam window
06:14 dviola: today for example I had the uninstall pop up come up and I had no idea how that happened
06:14 dviola: I'm happy to leave it at that at this point
06:57 dviola: s/keyboard/input devices/
09:41 dviola: MrCooper: looks like plugging the mouse on another port made the problem go away
09:43 dviola: man, I'm going to hate myself and the whole USB industry for the rest of the year, can't believe going through all of that for such a stupid issue
09:45 MrCooper: heh, glad you figured it out though
09:46 dviola: thanks
09:47 dviola: for some reason the mouse likes being on the USB 2.x port more
09:49 dviola: learned how to build sway against my own xwayland builds, it's all good
09:50 MrCooper: I had a weird USB experience recently as well, had to move a couple of peripherals from a USB2 port to a USB3 one to avoid various issues, wasted quite a lot of time looking for a software problem first
09:52 dviola: haha, it happens
09:53 dviola: USB seems to be one of the most unreliable things on a computer
09:53 dviola: the good thing is you get stories to tell to other people :P
09:58 MrCooper: indeed, overall it's still much better than what we had before though :)
09:58 soreau: CS 101 :P
09:58 MrCooper: looking at you, PS/2
09:59 soreau:P4 mobo has half-n-half purple/green for mouse or keyboard
10:16 dviola: I wonder how many software bugs are wrongly identified because of hardware issues like this
10:21 dviola: "it's wayland's fault"... nope, it's just your mouse!
10:24 dviola: "what's going to be your new year resolution?", "USB 4.x please"... /s
10:32 dviola: MrCooper: did that GPU hang you had with Assetto Corsa ever got fixed?
10:40 dviola: I'm looking for a new racing game and just happened to remember that
10:51 soreau: new? or old.. pscx2 works pretty well with GT4 these days :P
10:57 dviola: damn, GT brings back the memories, old is probably fine
10:58 dviola: need to go back to factorio though :P
11:06 dviola: lately I've been enjoying figuring out issues like this rather than playing those games, but it's still nice to play those games, what type of games are y'all into?
11:08 dviola: figuring out/tinkering*
11:09 MrCooper: dviola: using a different GPU now, doesn't happen with that, never got fixed with the previous GPU though
11:10 MrCooper: I do mostly racing sims and puzzle games such as Portal or Talos Principle
11:10 MrCooper: dviola: note that the hang was only with ACC, never with AC
11:11 dviola: MrCooper: I see, surprising to hear it never got fixed
11:11 dviola: great games!
12:59 dviola: I seem to have taken my conclusions too soon
13:00 dviola: damn it, still getting the issue
13:07 dviola: I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the input though
13:09 dviola: ehh.. this looks weird: https://0x0.st/Xdit.txt
13:11 dviola: Input device: Logitech USB Keyboard. Type: Mouse... what?
13:14 MrCooper: does it have a trackpad or something?
13:18 dviola: nope
13:18 dviola: logitech m90
13:18 dviola: sorry I realize I'm going too offtopic again
13:19 dviola: no #libinput :/
13:26 dviola: I think it might be confusing itself with the mouse and keyboard, that might explain the situation where I get uninstall popups on steam when I didn't do anything
13:26 dviola: oh well
13:28 dviola: on my laptop the output of that command is more sane
13:34 dviola: going to ask on #sway
13:42 MrCooper: FWIW, #wayland is also for libinput
13:42 dviola: oh ok
13:42 MrCooper: I'd expect this to come from the kernel though
13:46 dviola: makes sense
13:52 dviola: switching to #wayland
15:08 DemiMarie: MrCooper: Hard disagree on USB being better than PS/2. It’s much worse.
15:47 superkuh: DemiMarie++
15:47 superkuh: Interrupt > polling
15:48 dviola: I knew those comments were coming haha
15:54 soreau: heh
16:39 DemiMarie: dviola: which comments?
16:40 DemiMarie: For me: Port dedicated to (trusted) keyboard and mouse > port that could be used by anything (including untrusted devices). A dedicated USB controller in its own IOMMU group would be just as secure.
16:41 dviola: DemiMarie: USB vs PS/2
16:44 dviola: not saying people shouldn't express their opinion, I just think it's funny
16:50 superkuh:is typing on a ps/2 keyboard on a ps/2 supporting mobo (no dongle). :)
