04:25 imirkin: anholt: please make sure to run your nv30 nir-to-tgsi branch with a nv30 chipset in drm-shim rather than nv40. nv30 doesn't have loops and some other restrictions, so just want to make sure that all gets "hooked up" properly
04:26 imirkin: (er, maybe not "rather than" but "in addition to")
04:26 anholt: imirkin: in addition to, yeah. was just trying to get the nv40 fails knocked down today
04:26 anholt: was working on another temp usage issue
04:26 imirkin: anholt: btw, for making drm-shim work in "mainline", i wonder if it'd be ok to require like a NV_SKIP_FENCE or whatever env var
04:27 anholt: I'd be fine with that
04:27 imirkin: unfortunately dropping the fence thing there causes real-world problems
04:27 imirkin: it _seems_ like that shouldn't happen, but ... here we are.
04:27 imirkin: i never quite dug into the full reason
04:28 imirkin: anholt: also glennk has a patchset to fix some loop stuff in the nv30 compiler
04:29 imirkin: anholt: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/12241
04:30 imirkin: i sadly haven't taken the time to grok it
04:30 imirkin: but if you do, that'd be 2 people saying it wasn't busted, which is good enough for me ;)
14:27 ilgaz: I was on a wrong network for 2 days :-) Hi all
14:28 karolherbst: ilgaz: freenode?
14:29 karolherbst: Wondering if there is some information still not updated or so
14:30 ilgaz: Hello imirkin . on opensuse tumbleweed (rolling linux release) I did piglit test on this mac mini 3.1 with geforce 9400M. Interested in results? sorry I couldn't manage to build/run git stuff yet but I think my software should be fairly recent
14:30 ilgaz: karolherbst: I automatically thought nouveau moved to that new network so I went there I guess
14:30 ilgaz: which I keep forgetting the name. libera?
14:31 karolherbst: ahh, yeah
14:31 karolherbst: I actually think I've created the channel there...
14:31 enyc:meows
14:32 karolherbst: I will set a motd
14:32 ilgaz: It would be good if they added a tip to topic. I mean I got even worried about imirkin's health and checked his linkedin etc lol
14:33 ilgaz: aha! karolherbst check last line of https://people.freedesktop.org/~imirkin/
14:33 ilgaz: that is where I got the freenode from
14:34 karolherbst: ahh
14:34 karolherbst: imirkin might be willing to update it :D
14:35 karolherbst: ilgaz: anyway, I guess you run into some texture fails in piglit?
14:36 ilgaz: I got the (tar) file here of entire test. Let me upload to google drive and share its link
14:37 karolherbst: ilgaz: not really interested in the details, because there is nothing I can do about it personally anyway, I am just wondering if there is anything standing out there
14:37 ilgaz: there are some dmesg fails etc too. Test is huge, lots of fails out there which are expected I guess
14:39 ilgaz: I remember running opensuse tumbleweed/ other distros with wayland enabled on this 9400M (thanks to nouveau) and now some real bad things happen once I enable wayland on kde. As you know they did huge amount of fixes recently, it should have progressed not regressed lol
14:39 karolherbst: yeah.. big endian is a mess
14:39 karolherbst: or is this intel already?
14:39 ilgaz: karolherbst: oh this is core duo
14:40 karolherbst: ohh
14:40 karolherbst: mhh
14:40 karolherbst: I guess there we should have less bugs...
14:40 ilgaz: I used nouveau on G5 though. It was good. At least for ordinary stuff
14:40 ilgaz: web etc
14:42 ilgaz: here are the piglit results tarball https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hww3BTnhJSj7B_4lgvR-gR408YKpyHEE/view?usp=sharing
14:48 ilgaz: karolherbst: once I enable kde wayland, kde panel starts crashing crazily to the point of control alt backspace needed. I am stuck not knowing how to report it to nouveau devs
14:54 karolherbst: ilgaz: ehh.. I suspect KDE bugs
14:54 karolherbst: their wayland support is.... not the best
14:58 ilgaz: anyways I am enjoying LXQT for the time being :-)
14:59 ilgaz: karolherbst: but nouveau devs would be definately interested in gfx card completely freezing (but sshd etc are OK) right?
15:01 karolherbst: depends on what's happening. Normally userspace shouldn't be able to crash the system, but sometimes the issue is a bit more annoying. We do have some cases where userspace just freezes itself
20:06 Kingsy: what kinda performance can nouveau give me in comparison to the proprietry nvidia drivers?
20:07 Kingsy: I really want to move open source. but I don't want to loose absolutely loads of performance
20:07 Kingsy: gaming on linux is hard enough as it is! :D
20:12 Lyude: Kingsy: not great, if you're trying to build a new system for gaming I would currently go with AMD or (if you're willing to wait for the DG2 to drop) Intel
20:13 Lyude: This may change someday in the future, but currently we're limited by not having firmware that nvidia's supposedly announced they would get to us at some point publically
20:14 Lyude: no idea if they'll follow through with that though
20:14 Kingsy: what a nightmare!
20:14 Lyude: yep
20:15 Kingsy: I am just so interested in using wayland with sway and they don't support the proprietry nvidia drivers.
20:15 Lyude: good news is you can tell nvidia has at least some interest with this, since otherwise I'm not sure why they'd be continuing to upload documentation for their GPUs to open-gpu-docs ( https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-doc )
20:15 Lyude: Kingsy: yeah - nvidia really drove themselves into a corner with that one
20:16 Kingsy: Lyude: when you saying AMD, you mean use radeon ?
20:17 Lyude: I know they've been working on wayland support though, not sure if that applies to sway or not. and yeah, I mean radeon GPUs (the current driver they're using is called amdgpu though, just to be clear)
20:17 Lyude: (clarification provided as there is also an older radeon.ko driver)
20:18 Kingsy: I guess for now I am just sutck with X
20:18 Lyude: Kingsy: I think there is work happening on this, I don't remember if it would apply to sway though
20:18 Kingsy: got ya
20:18 Lyude: oh wait - actually it very well might
20:18 Lyude: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NVIDIA-495.44-Linux-Driver
20:18 Lyude: (was trying to figure out if I could mention this or not publically :)
20:19 Kingsy: what do you mean?
20:20 Lyude: Kingsy: this was just something that came up at my job, hence why I had to find a news article somewhere to confirm it'd actually been released before mentioning to you
20:20 Kingsy: got you
20:21 Lyude: but yeah - GBM support was the big thing that was preventing wayland support, so I think there might be a path for this working on sway now if it doesn't already
20:21 Kingsy: thanks for the information!
20:21 Lyude: np
21:18 ilgaz: karolherbst: I started kde wayland and this is what happens when plasma panel goes crazy and crashes. https://anonpaste.org/?9a4238f68d8e67a7#7M1sAutsSQtuN63y16mMQ3vQoDPig4ZwianhR7g4gJtH
21:18 ilgaz:is happily without panel now :-)
22:05 skunky3: is there any way to get vulkan working with nouveau currently? and if not, are there any plans to work on that?
22:34 anholt: well, those nv40 NIR numbers are looking really nice now
22:34 karolherbst: anholt: cool
22:34 karolherbst: skunky3: not yet, but there is some stuff worked on
22:35 karolherbst: anholt: you mean shader stats or performance wise?
22:35 anholt: shader stats
22:35 karolherbst: I do have a nv3x card in case you need some testing
22:35 anholt: I only have nv40, so that could help. but the main limitation is reliably testing any correctness :(
22:35 karolherbst: yeah.... it can be annoying
22:36 karolherbst: I will do a full CTS run when testing nv30 though, but not sure how bad it will be :D
22:44 anholt: ok, shader-db stats should be good now, and included nv30 for imirkin :)
22:48 skunky3: karolherbst: how do things look in that direction? is there any way to get more info on that?
