05:40 sigod: does the nouveau driver require nouveau-fw for both va-api and vdpau?
05:51 HdkR: yes
16:23 imirkin: HdkR: fyi 'nouveau-fw' is sometimes a super-ancient package for nv40 "firmware" which is now in kernel. but it's from a pre-mainline period.
20:41 Agent-Theta: Hello, I'm having troubles getting nouveau to work with my 2070 on trisquel, i tried to fix it on my own, but nothing worked and i broke linux, so i am doing this from a fresh install updated to the latest kernel. If someone could help me, that would be great!
20:43 Lyude: cool, got bored today so now i've got nvidia's headers working in igt
21:29 karolherbst: Agent-Theta: well.. depends on how it's broken and if you got logs
22:59 Agent-Theta: it was pretty much a fresh install anyways, with nothing needing to be saved, and it breaking had nothing to do with nouveau
23:04 Agent-Theta: the OS packages were not up to date, so i added the debian repository, which is where the os packages originate from, it still did not work, so i did an update all(without removing) and it broke and would not boot
23:07 Agent-Theta: the error it says on startup is "failed to load firmware" which i still got after updating
23:07 karolherbst: Agent-Theta: ohh, is trisquel using linux-libre?
23:07 Agent-Theta: yeah
23:08 karolherbst: mhhh
23:08 karolherbst: you can't use linux-libre on maxwell 2nd gen and newer
23:08 karolherbst: we require nvidia signed blobs in order to enable acceleration
23:08 Agent-Theta: thats good to know, i don't think it said that on the web site
23:09 karolherbst: good point.. I think we should be more explicit about it somewhere
23:10 Agent-Theta: Is there a way to get it to work, or do i have to use a different OS?
23:10 karolherbst: using a normal linux kernel would do, but you'd also need a linux-firmware package
23:11 karolherbst: but probably easier to use a different distribution
23:12 Agent-Theta: i don't need to use trisqul, just one that i thought i would try so thats not a big deal
23:12 Agent-Theta: Thx for the help anyways :)
23:12 karolherbst: no problem.
23:27 imirkin: Lyude: looks like someone ran into a bug with https://cgit.freedesktop.org/drm/drm/commit/?id=f28e32d3906e
23:28 Lyude: imirkin: that's a bit surprising, but maybe there's some silly error there I didn't notice. do you have a link to a bug report or something?
23:28 Lyude: or is it on the ml
23:28 imirkin: Lyude: ml. and sent to you, i believe.
23:28 Lyude: imirkin: alright, I can take a look first thing monday
23:30 imirkin: no columbus day for you?
23:31 Lyude: oh maybe? i'm bad at noticing things like that sometimes
23:31 imirkin: not all companies give that day off. some do, some don't
23:32 imirkin: no clue about RH
23:32 karolherbst: well, we have Friday off :p
23:32 karolherbst: Seems like in some countries they have colombus day, but not in the US and not in the czech republic :p
23:33 imirkin: uhm, it's a US federal holidays. would be odd for *other* countries to have it...
23:33 karolherbst: Chile and Colombia seem to have it as well
23:34 imirkin: i guess. different-but-same holiday
23:35 karolherbst: we have this nifty calendar one can subscripe and you see all the holidays from all the countries :D
23:35 ericonr: brasil does as well, fwiw
23:35 karolherbst: apparently that's something else though
23:36 karolherbst: "Our Lady of Aparecida Day"
23:37 imirkin: it is one of those holidays that i couldn't tell you precisely what it's meant to celebrate. you just get the day off, and enjoy.
23:39 karolherbst: yeah... we have such days company wide now
23:39 karolherbst: friday is the next one
23:41 imirkin: and then there's Patriot's day, which is mostly just celebrated in new england
