03:39imirkin: i forget who had the laptop with a tu11x chip, but looks like nvidia pushed the signed firmware to linux-firmware. with the current kernel 5.6 rc's, you should be able to get reverse prime going.
03:48maccraft: imirkin: do you know anyone in nvidia with some leverage in company or access to 2007 docs?
03:48imirkin: nope.
03:48HdkR: Just shoot an email off to Jensen :P
03:49maccraft: HdkR: "yo jensen gimme mcp78 datasheet pls"
03:49imirkin: mcp78 has to be after 2007... G80 was 2006, and the G92 followed a while later. mcp78 is after G92...
03:50maccraft: 2008 release date but docs had to be made earlier to port bios
03:50imirkin: heh
03:51imirkin: released June 2008, it seems. so yeah.
03:51imirkin: sounds plausible.
03:52maccraft: also, would coreboot port help improving nouveau?
03:55imirkin: not at all
08:03karolherbst: imirkin: ohh, I totally missed that as well
13:48imirkin_: karolherbst: what did you miss?
13:48imirkin_: skeggsb: see cosurgi's notes above, looks like the ENOMEM fix worked
14:01karolherbst: the firmware
14:02imirkin_: oh
16:57lukeer: Hi there. I just installed Debian 10.2 and nouveau manages to get the resolution of the attached TV right (1920x1080) but the colours are distorted in a way so one can guess where edges should be but black text on light blue background are hard to make out. Hardware seems OK since SystemRescueCD_v3.0.0. starts a graphical environment that just looks normal (also using nouveau).
16:57lukeer: Is there a configuration setting for nouveau that controls byte order or bit order of the colour values, maybe?
16:59karolherbst: lukeer: is that an interlaced resolution?
16:59imirkin_: lukeer: are you on a BE cpu?
17:06lukeer: karolherbst: No, that should be "normal" full HD a.k.a. 1080p.
17:06lukeer: imirkin_: The CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo E6420. I don't know what BE is.
17:09karolherbst: heh.. weird
17:11imirkin_: big endian
17:11imirkin_: so you're fine
17:11imirkin_: which GPU is this?
17:12lukeer: Sorry, it's a GeForce 6800 GT (NV40).
17:12imirkin_: how is it connected?
17:13lukeer: PCI Express on the board side, DVI-D -> Adapter to HDMI -> HDMI cable to the TV.
17:14lukeer: Oh, starting with "nomodeset" gets the colurs right, but doesn't resolutions beyond 1024x768.
17:15karolherbst: nomodeset is deprecated btw
17:16lukeer: And the nouveau in the rather old SystemRescueCD 3.0.0 does colours and resolution right.
17:16karolherbst: mhhhhhh
17:16lukeer: Can I extract some info from a boot in SystemRescueCD and use that or get a diff with the current Debian system?
17:16karolherbst: I was also having troubles with the NV4x GPUs I've got here
17:17karolherbst: lukeer: could you check what kernel versions both systems use?
17:17karolherbst: debian and your systemrecueCD thing
17:19lukeer: Yes. I'll get that info. But it will take some time (and the kids have to get some dinner).
17:19lukeer: Will be back later. Thanks so far.
17:20karolherbst: I have to fetch some food as well
17:26imirkin_: lukeer: weird, would be godo to know what kernel version works and which one doesn't
17:26imirkin_: there's not a ton of stuff that goes on with nv4x modesetting
17:27imirkin_: DVI-D should be able to handle 1080p with a single lane (which is what you get with an HDMI adapter)
17:27imirkin_: however i don't know if there were lower TMDS limits on those earlier boards
