04:07 Juest: hi, hopefully someone is looking after verifications at this time
04:07 Juest: its not urgent anyway i can wait but would appreciate an ack :)
04:07 Juest: looking forward to positively contribute
04:34 Juest: hmm, what does qualify as a successful automated verification? what the bot says about it is the whole reason why?
04:37 whot: Juest: basically it's expected to contribute to a specific project on fdo already, we aren't (cannot be) a generic hosting instance like gitlab.com because we don't have the resources
04:37 whot: we used to be, it was abused, now we have to lock down a bit
04:38 Juest: i can understand that whot. i am not intending to misuse this as a generic project service
08:21 eric_engestrom: whot: re- two-step spam hide & purge, I see, that makes sense; thanks!
16:38 zmike: I really love how the gitlab jobs viewer doesn't let you filter by name, only by status
22:25 Lyude: whot: uh, if people can't create accounts who don't contribute to projects how are they supposed to be able to file issues?
22:26 Lyude: JFYI too - I just got pinged about this in another channel, that is definitely a real person lol
22:31 Lyude: So like in the future: if something like that happens where someone's asking for CI access but doesn't have a project in mind, it's fine for us to just reject the request and leave their username active - then they can just file a request once they do have a project idea in mind. We shouldn't be removing people's accounts entirely for making a mistake like that tbh.
22:34 Lyude: (and have provided proof of contributing of course)
23:07 whot: Lyude: you can still file issues, the only thing you can't do as external user is fork repos and created your own repos
23:07 Lyude: whot: hm, were you the one who put the chanserv ban in place then?
23:08 Lyude: (totally fine if it was, I'm just curious how it happened)
23:08 whot: no, that was at 00:45 my time when I was, possibly blissfully, asleep
23:08 Lyude: Huh.
23:08 Lyude: ok - yeah, the reason I mentioned it was because after they asked in here they immediately got banned on irc lol
23:08 whot: ftr, I don't touch anything except spam and I don't think I have rights to quietn anyone here
23:08 Lyude: strange
23:09 Lyude: (their account on gitlab also but banned, though I think we figured out that was because they forgot to hit the X for "I'm not a spammer" in time)
23:10 whot: ping the coc committe please
23:11 dwfreed: you do have quiet access
23:11 dwfreed: I'd have to look at DB logs to see who set it, as it's been deleted
23:11 whot: dwfreed: TIL :)
23:13 whot: Lyude: fwiw we also don't close user accounts if they're not approved unless they're spammers
23:13 whot: like you have to be posting obvious spam somewhere to get deleted
23:13 Lyude: yeah - I looked at the gitlab history and it looks like it was the conduct bot
23:14 Lyude: it wasn't closed though, just blocked
23:15 whot: iirc there's no such thing as "closed", there's blocked and deleted
23:15 whot: i think there's also deactivation but I'm not sure on the details on that
23:16 dwfreed: guessing they meant deleted when they said closed
23:16 whot: yeah, I doublt we're disagreeing on anything anyway, but closed often has other meanings so easier to stick to the official terms to avoid confusion
23:17 whot: same as an "approved" user is just external: false in gitlab
23:17 whot: ok, I gotta go, everyone here is waiting for me
